Both Tom and my sister were yaking the first half of the day. First a little side note. Yes my sister looks asian, she and I were both adopted, and yes the stereotype is true she can't drive LOL . This didn't stop her from pulling some monster bugs. The fishing was a good pick on reds in the deeper spots.The diving conditions were tough due to the swell and the surrounding elephant seals but we still killed it. Enjoy the picks.

With the blow we had Friday and the dismal forecast the decision was made to hide along the Santa Barbara county coast. So I met my buddy Bryan at S.B. harbor at 6:00am and see what kind of day we could squeeze in. The ride down to Carpinteria was fine, and while it was a little bumpy it was very fishable all day with just a small amount of wind in the morning. We spent the bulk of the day fishing 45-65ft of water although we hit a few spots in 105-135ft.As for the bite it started out as a steady pick while the current ran uphill, and as the direction of the current changed so the bite tapered off to a slow pick. We ended the day with 23 mixed legal bass (70/30 calico) and 12-15 misc rockfish, with ever thing released. The hot color was senorita with all sizes of Big Hammers getting bit. Water temps had dropped to 60-61 degrees, but all in all another fun day of fall bassing!..Captain Larry

Also, what type of gear should I bring? I'm assuming I'll want to fish braid, but how heavy of a leader, how much weight etc. I haven't done any bottom fishing in a long time, so I'm pretty out of the loop with this style of fishing.

Saw hundreds of shorts with a few legals mixed in managed 14 bugs for 4 divers. Saw lots... Once again the weather report was looking pretty bad so we decieded to sneak around to the lee of Santa Cruz. Saw hundreds of shorts with a few legals mixed in managed 14 bugs for 4 divers. Saw lots of cool life down there. A couple of mora eels, large octopus and in a weird situation I was working a bug in a hole and for some reason a decieded to look up and about 20 feet away a 5 foot soup fin shark is checking me out. In the past all of the sharks I have encountered, have done all that they can to advoid me as a diver. This one turned and made a quick charge at me. I swung at it when it was about 4 feet away with my dive light in me hand. It veered off in the other direction and I took off the other way. Call me a wuss but for the rest of the dive I was looking over me shoulder. After a couple of dives we fished the gap for some small rock fish. The crazy Russian on board also wanted some uni. Lots of life out there, whales dolphins and believe it or not even an otter at Santa Cruz. I wasn't the least bit stoked to see that guy eating some sort of shellfish.
