While some fisherman apparently are canceling trips for want of marlin, the epic wahoo bite continues on the banks outside Isla Magdelena. And, just like is supposed to happen, the hoos keep getting bigger as the season wears on. In the five years I have been fishing out of Puerto Lopez Mateos this is the best year for hoos yet, and there should be six weeks or so left. Bob Hoyt of Mag Bay Outfitters who has been fishing the area longer than I says the same. I fished solo north of Thetis Bank Wednesday after a 3:30 a.m. launch beside the ramp at Lopez. By noon I was headed back in with four wahoo to 52#. The only other boat fishing for wahoo Wednesday morning was Al Jorden's $eaNote with Al, brother-in-law Max, and Lopez Mateos Captain Sergio Garcia aboard. The $eaNote scored five hoos and fed three more to sea lions. In addition to the four I got to the boat I lost two more trying in vain to get photos of the fish at the boat showing off the lures that fooled them. Several other boats that put in at Lopez stayed closer to the boca and made easy limits of football yellowfin.
Yesterday and the day before, fishermen fishing with Mag Bay Outfitters caught a monster hoo on conventional tackle that weighed 101 pounds, and another on the fly out of the Casitas on the island where they had no scale to weigh it that taped at 88 pounds.
In the meantime, Captain Ruben Duran has been fishing with clients in the estero and catching black snook to over 30 pounds.
So, although the marlin still have not yet made an appearance they are being missed only by those who are determined to have a fish with a bill on it.
Attached is a photo of Al Jorden and Captain Sergio Garcia on the $eaNote Wednesday with a nice wahoo.

I met my two brothers in Cabo Friday afternoon for 4 days of drinking and fishing. We had a great time. First day of fishing we got a 32 ft boat from a place called Gaviota. FYI I would not get one from there again the one we were supposed to get would not start when we showed up at 6 am so they put us on another. That one lost its steering half way thru the day so we could only go in circles until they fixed it. We did pick up five decent Dodos. It was very rough as we fished the pacific side. Next day the water had flattened out nice so we took out on a panga. We did much better on the pangas picking up 13 Dorado a Rooster and a nice Bonita.
All in all we had a great time!!! Mexicio is Mexicio take it for what it is and have fun.

If you go here are some suggestions.

Stay at Hotel Mar De Cortez. Clean, cheap close to everything. Huge walk in freezer to keep your catch frozen. Very casual and fisherman friendly.

If you gat a panga try to get it from the owner not an agent.
Unless you want to try for sailfish DONT buy the bait we never used it gave it all to the birds $30.00 each day. They try to force you to buy it.
MAKE SURE you get see the panga you are going to fish from and dont let them switch it. They love to show you a NICE one then show up with a peice of shit and tell you that the capitain for the nice one did not show up today. That is why it is also better to deal with an owner not an agent. There a ton of agents that pretend to be buddies with the boat owners but once they get your money you never see them again and you are stuck with what ever shows up.
Bring your ice chest with you we had to pay $55.00 for a tiny coleman.
Also bring blue ice. Dont tape up your ice chest before you are at the airport going home they make you open it.
No matter what hey say DONT DRINK THE WATER.
Any questions PM me,
HAVE FUN WE DID

Quick report-Drove down from Ensenada in 2 days. Day 1 left Ensenada 11:45am made Mulege at 9:45pm. Left Mulege at 7am made it to Cabo at 4:45pm. Pretty uneventful drive. Road is an excellent shape for 99% of the drive. Very green and weather is mild. Fished today with my girlfriend Paty and it was pretty slow although we did manage 3 nice 20-25lb dorado and a small sailfish fishing north on the Pacific side. Will be out again on Friday before heading to the Hotel Buenavista Resort for a couple of days of fishing there. As long as I can find an internet connection I'll try to keep the reports timely.

Fished with Renegade Mike this past Saturday looking for some big tuna. Left the dock a little late around 7am and it took a while to get the sardinas. Caballitos were readily available. Went to two different bait spots and had to wait while the bait pangas caught bait and supplied those there before us. Started out drifting fly lined sardinas off Punta Gorda and worked our way to the inner and outer Gordo banks. Tuna in the 60-100lb range where caught early and there where still boats picking off one or two. The fish where definitely there, at least one boat in the fleet was always hooked up through out the day. It was just a slow bite. We managed to get one small yellowfin about 20lbs on the sardinas. Also, fished a caballito on the kite for no love. Headed inshore for some dorado and more small tuna but only got a small barred pargo on a green and yellow tady. The "needle dicks" as Mike likes to call the needle fish were thick there so we headed back toward the marina trolling along the way. Caught a 15lb dorado on the way in on a blue and white marlin jig off the right rigger. The weather was sunny with some scattered clouds and a slight chop with some wind. The pacific side was blowing really good so we avoided that. Had a good time fishing with Mike and his crew, they are an entertaining bunch. Even though we didn't do too well it was a very enjoyable trip and would fish with Mike again.

Hurry up, the history of Baja beyond Bahaha lies in the memory of several historical giants one of which is the Arizona lover of Gene Autry......Baja Bill. This historical giant needs to be recorded in the annals of of a history book while he is alive with failing health, much like my own, at a failing age as sunsets become more important than every day activities. Baja Bill will give you the shirt off his back and share with you evey bit of knowledge he has of the Ensenada records of this beginning of the history of a frontier.....should you get so lucky as I did. Baja Bill is a wealth of knowledge about the Ensenada Baja area that begins with Tequila shots and ends with a sunset from his hacienda as sunlight yields to the darkness of night. Guarded by a pair of rotweilers that guard the front and back of his multiple story beautiful home this family magnificent ranch can only be described as one of Ensenada's most magnificent Mexican historical pieces needing a record on itself. So when you read a post from this man do know that it is from someone who lives full time in the Baja Peninsula with years of knowledge being shared with you from the goodness of his big heart. While driving him downtown he gave me the best that he's got about local spots of interest right down to his Father's (now deceased RIP)right spot for fresh water from the wells of the most natural wells. He pointed out his Banks for Financial connections to post Office locations and now I am set for proper banking and post office places. Now, if you want the best family old recipe for turkey fixings....this man is a wealth of knowledge and I got to tell you for gravy and dressing....it doesn't get any better.......muy sabrosa as Fred says in his book. Out of this world....if you are cooking a turkey for Thanksgiving Baja Bill's recipe will knock your Mother - In - Law out of her panty hose. Dressing will blow you away, gravy over mashed potatoes will send you to heaven I know cause that's what I ate in his Hacienda while watching a John Wayne VHS tape which we used for background while he told tales of the past. Before he leaves us due to a failing pacemaker or whatever, you must capture this Giant of a Baja historical man. I only post this so that bloodydecks will capture this piece of Baja history. This man loves Baja and fishes with Captain Juan in San Quinten and also prepared one of the most delicious whiteseabass lunches I have ever eaten. This has all been possible due to Bloodydecks and my connection through this forum. So publicly.....thanks Baja Bill for sharing your Baja life with me and let this forum know that your are a stand up guy to love and respect as an American legend in the history books beginning with Ray Cannon and turning the pages with the Giants who have taken prominence in the real Baja annals of those who have paid their dues in the dirt of the Baja.

I walked by Sergio's today. Not only was it closed but it is cleaned out. All the glass cases are empty, the only thing in the place is an abandoned Ice Machine. Apparently this is a permanent closure. New buyer being sought with deep pockets to pay for dock improvements. Cash investment overwhelmed by lack of business. Sergio walked with two boats.....Ensenada Clipper and Cazadore now at Mercardo Negro with bottom issues. More news at eleven.

Next......Ensenada Live Bait.

Heard through the grape vine.........Armando did not come up with all the money to buy out Mike. Mike now owns Ensenada Live Bait once again.
Permit problems now in question. Julio says boxes have sardines.

Tuna still on the Gordo, lotsa fish ,hard to hook but good quality, fishing sardines for chum with boleto, mackeral with limited success. 125# flouro. That's the skinny as I know it, Fishing is picking up!,. Capt J

This year winners were our local guys representing the "Word Billfish Release Tournament" based righ here in Cabo San Lucas. Congrats to Oscar Daccarett and his team. There is o recognition for the boats that are entered, but the "top Captain" is recognized by the I.G.F.A. for his hard work duriong the tournament. This year winner was our own Captain Ivan Gomez at the helm of a beautiful 45' Cabo Express named "Chaos". He took the lead on day 1 and never loocked back to secure the award and a nice trophy. Great job Captain!!! Picante SPortfshing had 13 of our Cabo Charter boats in the event out of the 43 charter boats entered.

Just got back from a fantastic experience taking a trailer to Los Barriles to help a friend in need. What a great trip we had, no trouble whatsoever. No flats, wrecks or trouble with any bad guys. It went very smooth. On the way back up we stopped in Gonzaga to leave my best friends ashes in his favorite place in the whole world. God bless you Cram, I know your finally at peace. The big letdown of the trip was the construction south of Puertecitos. I was sooooooo shocked that I failed to get any photos. It's just as well as they would have made you sick. It looked like construction on the 101 or something like it. It appears to me that Gonzaga as we all once new it will be changed forever as soon as the road is finished. Pretty sad deal. Anyway the road from TJ all the way to Cabo is clear with no problems at all other than the umpteen stops by the feds, looking for guns and drugs. What a joke that is. Anyway, Thanks to all you guys for your information as it helped a ton. We now have many more great memories to add to our previous trips. I'm ready to go back next week, I love it down there!
