Crabbing

Fishing: Lings, Butts, Salmon.

Scenic ocean views
Any areas with attached docks?
Looking at getting a 25' pilothouse to keep there.
I have searched online but I cannot find any details in regards to the launch (tide issues and such). I found satellite photos of Keystone bay which show 2 piers and a launch on the south tip of the bay.
Anyway....I plan to go this Sunday (whether looks great now). Does anybody have any thoughts/opinions on using this launch to fish Mid Channel?

I was thinking about anchoring up on my way in and dropping my light around Edmonds, or maybe somewhere around Elliott Bay. Was just curious if anyone else had tried this with any success, or am I too early? water too cloudy? or??

Your feedback appreciated.

Rigging? Tuna boat setup

After browsing a bunch of threads on a spectrum of forums, there isn't a threat that definitively shows setups of various boats. Everyone has a different boat and a different setup for 3 key ingredients:

Ice/fish storage (bleeding/cooling/kill box&bag)

Spread/rigging (outriggers/downriggers/rod holders/storage)

Specialized setups (bait tanks/carking tables/modifications)

Every boat is a compromise, so let's catalog some photos on these criteria. I know TT's boat uses his big aft boxes for cooling where the dory guys use buckets and garbage cans. Some guys have production riggers, some build their own. Sometimes boats just don't get the job done, so guys do mods to make them better at their job.

This should be a good, informative thread if we can get as many of the sport tuna guys on here to post up setup photos. It might improve many setups that are otherwise not safe, or lack capacity.

Of course, I have a huge selfish interest in this as well, but we have a bunch of boats from 17 feet to over 40, all might have good applicable ideas.

As a group, we have discussed this and have come to the determination that we should define the go/no go conditions for the event. Since each participant is part of the adventure we welcome your input.

Last year, we did not have a predefined rule set for what conditions warranted the cancellation of the fishing portion of the event. Even if the fishing is canceled, we still do the dinner and raffle. As you guys know, the conditions looked pretty scary if you were to believe some of the forecasts on the preceding weds/thurs but we stuck with our gut feel and things turned out out to be very fishable. If we had followed the OTC rule set the fishing portion of the event would have been canceled since the Thursday 3pm NOAA was over 10ft combined.

As an event organizer, what would you do?

1) Play it safe and let the NOAA forecast on Thursday determine the shot? In following this path you will not fish on days that are otherwise fishable but you will give crews the chance to bail out on reservations if they would not otherwise come.

2) Go for the gold.. We fish as long as the CG lets us.

3) We fish but let the CG determine our no go based on restriction. If restricted 30 (or another number )then we cancel as a matter of respect to the majority who can't get out.

Should we consider keeping Sunday as a reserve by Captains vote on Friday given poor but improving conditions?

I'll post up other issues going forward and we welcome input and participation from all who wish to help out. We are a very open group who simply want to live by the "Having fun, Doing right" moto. If you did or will participate going forward please feel free to vote or suggest other options. At some point we will make the call but we have time to consider options and make the best decision we can.

Well last night was our last night for rod building. Of course it looks like we all have to put a litttle more time of our own, to put finishing touches on them. We all had a good time and it was a great way to spend a few evenings screwing around to kill the winter boredom. If anyone wants to take a class to build a rod. I highly recommend one of Gregs custom rod
classes. Pics will follow when they are completed.
