It was a great trip. We started by meeting up at willie joes, had a few drinks and shot the sh**. Everybody was hyped up with anticipation from the great weather. we called it a night and met back up at the dock around 0500 to load up. I was suprised that there wasnt as many rods brought than i expected, lol. The plan was to make the 211 mile/10hr run to the redhawk spar. Here is a pic of the ride out

As soon as we arrived at the spar there was plenty of action on top. A couple of Yellow Fin Tuna were caught on lures from the start but then became obsolete. Chunks were to be the star of the show. many Yellow Fin Tuna were starting to hit the deck.

After a few hours the tuna started responding to lures. shibuki/brabus minnows became the lure of choice for many anglers. I reluctantly tied one on since i was in denial about the lack of a topwater bite. I soon hook up into a tuna that took everything i had and laughed in my face. the fish literally had me pinned down and wouldnt bugde. There were a few times where i thought my carpenter tn87 was goin to explode but it held up fine.

After about 40min(according to other people) i did the unthinkable and handed my rod off the doug. This was the last thing i wanted it to do but i absolutely had nothing left. the combination of miller lite and bud lite didnt help either. the fish ended up breaking off and swam off with my pride. thanks to steve for the coaching he gave me on this humbling experience.
I took a break and got back in the action. Shortly after, i hooked into 2 more YTF that both came in under 5 minutes.

my second tuna

the bite was insane and fish was hitting the deck at a fast rate all the way into to morning. 55 Yellow Fin Tuna's were harmed the 1st night! i managed to get a 30lb Yellow Fin Tuna in the morning and saved him for some sashimi later in the day.

Fall is here and fishing has started to heat up! Two to three weeks ago fishing was a bit slow, but in the past 10 days I have seen a huge change and the fishing has really picked up. At the beginning of fall we were catching fish, but the trout we were catching were undersized trout 13-16 inch trout. Our ratio of throw backs to keepers were around 1 out of 6. Now we are on better schools with more keeper trout and the sand trout and gulf trout action is non stop at times. We are mainly using soft plastics to catch our fish and depending on the weather we have used live shrimp under a cork at some locations. We are pretty much fishing under the birds in Trinity Bay and when they aren’t working, we are drifting some reefs or anchored on the shoreline. Fall is typically a great time to take a trip, the weather is great and fishing is even better. It’s a great time to get the family out one last time before winter comes. Before I end this report I want to give everyone a great tip on fishing in the fall. When you are fishing under the birds or where there are a lot of smaller fish your fishing equipment and gear can be the key to catching keeper fish. Your fishing rod is very important. You need a rod that you can fish soft plastics with and sensitive enough to feel those bites. I use the Castaway Skeleton rod and it makes fishing with artificial baits so easy. So invest in a good Castaway rod so you can get those long cast and that action you need to entice those trout to bite. Also use a good scented artificial bait. There are some great scented baits on the market, but I prefer bassassassins and fishbites. Don’t under estimate using the right fishing equipment, you will catch more quality fish. Well until next time, see you on the water.

Black Monday..
Wife told me she had an office day and could take the kids to school and pick them up. I didn’t have to think twice, I loaded up the truck Sunday night and told the wifey I’m heading down to the beach.
Left San Antonio around 6:00am am. My plan was to get down to the 20mm and start fishing. Talked to Nick Meyer of Breakaway after he finished doing his morning beach report. He reported good conditions with no sign of Red Tide and no new weed. That made my decision easy, save an hour and fish close.
Hit the “Wilson” on the North Sticks around 8:45am and casted my LDX with shrimp and Fish-Bites. Got the rod into the sand spike and before I could get my HDX set up the LDX was bent over. First Black of the day. From that first bite it was non-stop till 11:00am. Had my five Black Drum limit. Rest was catch and release. Finished the day with nine Black Drum..
Got to Fish Pass around 12:30. The water wasn’t as clear as North Sticks, no sign of Red Tide. Current still ripping to the South. Called no joy around 3:00 and left….
Was a great day on the beach…..
P.S. They need to do another sting operation on Bob Hall Beach.
I’m still blind in on eye!!!!
First Cast of the Day..
