I’m curious on how to operate the automatic 4 wheel drive system. My vehicle is equipped with a 2 button switch as seen in the photo below.

When I start the engine, sometimes the 2WD button mode is illuminated and sometimes not. When the 2WD light does not illuminate, I press the 2WD button in all gears including neutral and occasionally it illuminates and stays on. The 4WD HI mode button has the same behavior. The 4WD low and Auto 4WD button illuminates but the light does not stay lit.

When I have the 4WD HI mode engaged, the vehicle feels like it’s in 4WD low. When I make 3 point turns, the wheels seems like they are locking up on the turns. The tires do not roll freely and appears to drag on the ground when moving slowly.

I bought this vehicle from a friend who was the original owner and he never used the 4WD system so he was no help. I have the OEM owner’s manual but it’s no help either.

I’m guessing it’s a bad shift actuator or a transfer case vacuum switch. Any recommendation on how to trouble shoot this would be appreciated.

His quality of life is gone, he can no longer hear and can hardly see anymore, he can't stand without my help. This is one of the hardest things that I have done in my life.

Andy will always have a special place with me, and if you ever had a chance to meet him, share a beer with him or a WSB honey hole, you would say the same. As I look back on people who I know, and have known, I can only call people who I have fished with a brother. Not sure what it is, but when you spend time on the water with someone there is a bond between friends which turns you into brothers. You share and have the same passions… not for that same 50LBS WSB on the East End but you come to find out you have the same passions in life.

It brings me great sadness to inform you of the death of Andrew Mckenzie. He perished as a result of an off road vehicle accident on Saturday, November 7th at 4:15pm in the desert 10 miles north of Barstow. He was with his beloved girlfriend Erica Klaer at the time of the accident. He was not alone, he was with his soul mate. His passing was sudden and painless.
