Have yet to have the opportunity to try the MC reels (living in oregon cannot find a retailer that even has a demo to hold) and was curious how they perform fishing live bait or casting light weight lures/bait. Do the magnets cause to much resistance on the low setting? If dropping straight down will it easily free spool?

Need a lefty reel that I can hand-off to others to use (don't want to be picking out back lash all day) and plan to fish it for Albies (jig/bait), lings/rock fish, & sturgeon. Hoping the MXL is the way to go?

Hi all,

After listening to all my mate's raving, i decide to get myself an avet mxl mc. I intend to use it for both boat fishing as well as jetty fishing. I did a couple test cast for distance on a local jetty and found that the magnetic force is too strong and i could not cast as far as i would with other mag reels (eg. penn 525 mag). It works great from boat though. I am experienced with overhead casting and i am wondering if anyone knows if i can somewhat reduce the magnetic force? Maybe grind it down or something.

I tried to remove the MC from the casing once but did not succeed due to not being able to remove the first screw... Is a special tool required or is that just a tiny hex screw?

Any advise would be grateful :D

thanks,
Zach

Stocking up on my arsenal of Avet reels, planning on doing long range trips and spending time in Puerto Vallarta fishing with family. My question is what Avet reel would you add next to my line up? I currently own.

3- SX's, 2 on American series seekers 7' 870's one on shimano crucial 7'9" heavy action rated for 30-65braid

2- MXj's both on Diawa saltwater vip 7' 870's rated 15-40lbs

1- JX 2 speed on a 6'6" cedros jig stick. rated 65-100lb braid.

If you can only add 1 more reel, what would it be? I'm leaning towards the HX, not sure if the regular, narrow, or wide width would be best. What rod would you put the HX on? I also already own a Ugly stick custom rod, model USCSU 1166MH rated to 30-50lbs, would that be a good match for an HX?
Let's hear it, what do you think?
