Fished with Maya Sportfishing out of La Cruz, Friday 9/3 and Sunday 9/5 with good friend Peter Harris and William "Dean" Warner on Maya 32' Blackfin, with Captain Alberto Ramos in the wheel house. We left the Friday at gray light, lots of logs and trash in the water. Plan was to head to El Banco and take a look. 12 miles short of the high spot we find the spinner dolphins. We put out two cabbies and a big rapala and with in 5 mins we got three school size tuna all going in different directions, put all of these on the deck and relocate the school and immediately hang two more only to loose one of those. We decided to leave the dolphin to go to the bank. Bad Idea. We arrived El Banco shortly after to off color water and building seas. We trolled the planers and tried to make bait but were unsuccessful and decided to try and find the dolphin again with no luck with the wind coming up, we opted to go and try our luck on the roosters. We started on the north side of Mita for one lost fish due to a pulled hook, we putted north around the corner and got one nice Rooster that was gill hooked, yes we were using circle hooks, and this fish could not be revived. Back at the Marina to buy fuel just before 7:00. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Sunday we fished The Rock with the rest of the fleet, we were able to fill the tubes with choras right away, and bit right away with our first tuna of the day. I went to work on this one and in short order we had a 85 lber on the deck. Trolled around the rock as the action slowed to almost nonexistent. We fished some cut bait for one Rainbow runner a small pargo and some triggerfish. As the sun passed overhead with intermittent rain squalls the action started to pick back up. Dean got a small 20 lb tuna on a cabbie and then I hung another one and passed it off to Dean to work on. He fought it best a she could, 10 min into her struggle and at a stand still the hook pulled and with this last fish our trip was over. Back to the dock before dark.
