I had only an hour to fish so decided to fish local in front of the Charthouse for some BSP. Fishing the C-rig w/ a 2 foot fluoro leader, and camo crack. Got one in on the second cast right in the shore wash using the "picking up slack" method with a 1/2oz egg.

All in all I fished 45 minutes and picked up a few dinks and a couple slabs. I'd say 9 fish in total within' the 45 minutes. Fished the same hole the whole time. Fun day!

Surf fishing up date. I just moved to the Ventura area. I love to get out as often as possible to fish for the surf perch and anything els that want to test out my drags on my reel. Today I fished just south of Ventura Harbor. The swell was pretty big the current was not what I call ripping but was moving pretty good. I fished for about hour and a half. Only to catch 7 quality surf perch. The perch was about ¾ to a pound. I was using the camo sandworm with my 9 and a half foot G-Loomis 1141s with 10 pound power pro. When those fish came to eat the sandworm they ate it good. I did hook one fish that was a really good one but I think my drags were too tight and I lost him in the big surf. Next time guys I will do my best to have some pictures for you..

Black Monday..
Wife told me she had an office day and could take the kids to school and pick them up. I didn’t have to think twice, I loaded up the truck Sunday night and told the wifey I’m heading down to the beach.
Left San Antonio around 6:00am am. My plan was to get down to the 20mm and start fishing. Talked to Nick Meyer of Breakaway after he finished doing his morning beach report. He reported good conditions with no sign of Red Tide and no new weed. That made my decision easy, save an hour and fish close.
Hit the “Wilson” on the North Sticks around 8:45am and casted my LDX with shrimp and Fish-Bites. Got the rod into the sand spike and before I could get my HDX set up the LDX was bent over. First Black of the day. From that first bite it was non-stop till 11:00am. Had my five Black Drum limit. Rest was catch and release. Finished the day with nine Black Drum..
Got to Fish Pass around 12:30. The water wasn’t as clear as North Sticks, no sign of Red Tide. Current still ripping to the South. Called no joy around 3:00 and left….
Was a great day on the beach…..
P.S. They need to do another sting operation on Bob Hall Beach.
I’m still blind in on eye!!!!
First Cast of the Day..
Went for it anyways. I had a good feeling as I was crusing on the 75.
First spot was low surf, clear, some salad and not much structure. Started with a swimmy then the crack for nothing. Moved to spot 2
Found some holes and to throw the swimmy into. keep getting bites, figured perch were around and switched to the crack. Couple cast later I get hit like a train and its peeling drag off my 6lb setup. Thinking this is no perch.. Leo? Its getting closer and I'm looking.. nothing yet.. No leo, but a door mat lifted out of the white wash. shes a big one, and I new it wasent over. Went for the tail grab and she darted off again. I chased her down the beach and after a few more runs I grab the tail.

Heading down to Cabo San Lucas Nov 13-17 to fish offshore but would also like to do some surf fishing while im there. Im staying at the Riu Palace which is on the beach so im think of just casting around out infront of the hotel. Does anyone have any experience fishing the Cabo surf? Would like to know what type of fish I can expect and watch lures would work? Also, is there any public beaches I can fish and would I need a fishing license to surf fish? So far Im thinking there might be some jacks, ladyfish and sierra off the beach to catch with kastmasters, swimbaits or poppers. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Damn that movie sucked! lol,.. Na, it was another adventure for my daughter and I. we set our course for north, i have never in my life been in Malibu. no idea what the surf environment or how the locals are. But we said the hell with it and went there anyways. Our first stop was point dume of course, can't head all the way north and not visit that place and do a little fishing while were there. our primary location to be is El Matador, but from what peeps say it does not open until 8 or 9. So we killed an hour at Dume, the zuma side to fish. all the was biting was wall eye perch and sand tarpons. Bounced out of there after an hour, sadly we didn't get to go up Point Dume. my bad, next time. We got to El Matador with the gates open and plenty of parking. here is some info on how to pay, you gotta get an envelope and tear off a tag that you put in your car and put $8 bucks in the envelope and slide it in a lock box. not bad but get with the times cali, lol. Now about El Matador, in my daughters word "this place is awesome" lol!!! Let me get the info about the fishing out of here quick. OMG! this place for me was hard to fish from the surf, salad every cast, some sort of thick eel grass, looked like dark brown spaghetti. there was lots of it, but the kelp beds are right there and this place is great for divers, yakkers and for me...tubers! gonna fix up my tube and hit this place next time, but let me warn you, carry less gear down with you. you'll regret it on the way up, i did lol,.. so we stopped fishing and just started exploring. Lots of small caves that my daughter thought was exciting, you can literally just post up in them and kick back for the day there, most people were doing that, get some shade and you are just feet from the water. this is like a small water park for the kids as well, looked very safe for them, the water quality is excellent! had no idea it was so much better than the ones down here. i can go on and on but you just gotta come here and visit to see for yourself how beautiful this place is. we stayed for 4 hours just relaxing and having fun, what life should be. with the sun still high in the sky we got to head down to fish at a place a lot of surf anglers recommend, Zuma! now i know why you guys like it, right away its fish on and you leave them biting, lol, whats up with that!!! but oh my God i tried my best to land a slab but these fahken palm perch just kept biting my bait! is there a trick to only landing the slabs? PM ME! we were having a great time when i noticed my little girl got quiet, i looked to see what was wrong, of course, she fell asleep,.. poor little thing, she over exhausted herself with all the swimming, climbing, running, and exploring. i called it quits right away and gave all my bait away to other anglers, oh, about the loclas! very gracious, helpful and never had a problem with anyone. looks like i will be coming up here a lot more from now on. i want to do some more fishing and have the rest of my family check it out as well, i know the twins will have a blast at El Matador. check out my pics and 3 youtube videos of matador, peace!!!
