does your family constantly argue fight about how to run the business?
Do the elder older generations always believe in doing things one way, and the younger the opposite way? Believe in staying the same while you want to expand and change?
Do you have a constant flow of interesting and quirky characters? Are your customers interesting and quirky?
Television production company is looking for a family run bait and tackle shop for a new history channel documentary-style show. Family run business that includes two or more to three generations of the family currently working in the business.

In the next issue of lawai'a and Ulua tagging nexsletter check out my friends story, its pretty unbelievable. Him and his girlfriend caught an ulua last year on Oahu, tagged/released it and a year later when they moved up to Molokai they ended up catching the same fish. No bullsh*t either. I dont think its ever happened before and it may never happen again. I told him that they had a better chance of winning the lottery or megabucks but I know that catching the same fish on different islands is waaaaayyyyyy more satisfying.

Okay it's a new moon, no, not the movie, I don't watch eerie stuff like that, creeps me out. As everyone knows the makani has been singing its song for several weeks now with over 20 knots daily. I noticed the past few days it seemed to die down later in the evening, so off I went, to give the Akule a try. After searching a few old spots to no avail, went to another old spot and bingo, somebody stay home. Dropped anchor and fished till 2 am as I filled up my cooler, which is my quota.

I was solo, so a full cooler for an old guy like me is a definite accomplishment. Sure, can catch more fish since they were still biting, but why? Only can eat so much. There's always another trip to try again, nice to know there may still be some fish that you didn't catch, waiting for you. Mahalo ke Akua for the blessings and a safe trip.

Duh, forgot to reel in my lucky line and got it in one of my props when I went to pull anchor, so had to come in on one engine, no damage as I turned the engine off when I knew what happened so it wouldn't break the prop seal, whew, I hate when I forget stuff like that. Could it be something to do with age? Nah, I was just tired and plain forgot, heh heh.

AJ, the spool worked great, see pix, just bulky.

Sometimes freshwater and sometimes salt. 95% of the time I get skunked, that’s OK. For me, sight fishing with a flyrod is like Murphy’s law times 1000, but for some reason I enjoy the agony. Then there’s days like today....

This morning started out like every other morning when I try to stalk fish. The universe conspires to make sure I don’t catch anything. The most incredible coincidences you can possibly imagine materialize just enough to keep the fish off the hook. God hates me, he must, that’s the only feasible explanation.

So I’m sneaking down the bank looking for fish 20’ ahead or so, and I look down and there’s a nice carp right out in front of me. Somehow he hasn’t seen me yet. So I very carefully slide into a shadow, set my stuff down, and ready my rod. I make a long underhand pitch into his realm. He sees the fly, but doesn’t react to it. The fish is just about to turn to the point where my fly will be out of his cone of vision, so out of desperation I give the fly two big hops. The carp turned around and now he’s heading toward my fly. As he nears it, I give it two tiny hops and he cruises right over and inhales it. WHAM!! Fish on! It was just that easy.

True blue! What made this catch even sweeter was the fact that I got him on my own homemade carp fly. My first time trying to tie this style of fly.

Better shot of one of my carp flies. Looks like a little California spiny.

After the pics and the release. I retied, cleaned my line and added a couple drops of Bang to my bug. I didn’t want to risk having it smell like scared carp mouth.

Hours later I’m walking around and the water I’m now searching in has about 3 inches of visibility it’s literally like chocolate milk. I can barely see a big black image slowly cruising through the sticks. I know it’s a long shot but, what the hell.... After sneaking up very slowly and quietly, I cast past him and slide the fly right into his face. He stopped briefly. I don’t know if he saw it, or smelled it. I couldn’t see a thing, but I do know that when he started swimming again. My line was swimming with him. WHAM!! Fish on again!! Unbelievable! This sucker is big! I got him out of the sticks and into the net. This is easily my biggest carp on the flyrod. It’s also my biggest anything, on a flyrod(unless you count that taxi in St. Lucia, which I don’t). Behold my new PB flyrod carp!

Nudder shot of the same fish...

Duuude, How great is it when it works.

Well, I had two hours left to kill before picking the kids up from school. My thoughts turned to a couple carp that I was working on and presumably about to catch this morning, if not for the kindly old bass angler that came stomping up behind me banging two trashcan lids together, tripped over a rock, fell, dropped his 40 ouncer, cussed, stood high on top of a boulder casting a man shaped shadow all over my fish, and then yelled through a megaphone at me, CATCH ANYTHING?!!!!!!! as he goose-stepped down the bank, scaring off any chances I may have had at catching a shallow feeding carp.

Those fish were very far away, but I had time and I had a notion, and I had a half loaf of bread stashed in my back pack for just such an emergency. I got to the spot were I had fished earlier. I chunked up some bread and threw it in the water, tied on a puffy white fly, snuggled up into a shadowy rock recess and commenced to eating my lunch. One apple. One orange. One Pear. Oh look, one carp! It took some time and a little effort, but eventually the biggest carp who showed up to the feast mistook my puffy white fly for a piece of the free bread and got his picture taken.

When it rains, it pours. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. I very rarely post internet reports of these types of adventures. I’m not in the business of promoting carp fishing, quite the contrary. However if you enjoy these types of activities, please hit me up. I would enjoy the company, and we can benefit from group experiences. Two heads are better than one.
I was set on the yo-yo and wouldn't stop. The captain saw that many of us were doing so so decided to go looking to where the yo-yo would be most effective. After about 20 min. of looking the Captain told the deckhand to start chumming. I knew it was on.....

26 Yellowtail later of 22 plus pounders we were on our way back home. I caught 4 and my buddy 3. Just an epic trip for November fishing at the islands!:jig:

I don't know all the specs. It does what it's supposed to do. I don't have any backup disks anymore - I sold them. :-) Computer is probably 5 years old. Has sound card and all that stuff if you just want it for parts.

You can have the keyboard and mouse too. I'm keeping the monitor.

The case is a little beat up but hey it's free. Don't ask me a bunch of stupid questions about it. I'm giving it away and I'm not going to research the damn thing. :-) It's free and it works.

If you want the Flatscreen Dell Monitor with it - 75 bucks.

This was from my office - then I used it as a home computer.

While some fisherman apparently are canceling trips for want of marlin, the epic wahoo bite continues on the banks outside Isla Magdelena. And, just like is supposed to happen, the hoos keep getting bigger as the season wears on. In the five years I have been fishing out of Puerto Lopez Mateos this is the best year for hoos yet, and there should be six weeks or so left. Bob Hoyt of Mag Bay Outfitters who has been fishing the area longer than I says the same. I fished solo north of Thetis Bank Wednesday after a 3:30 a.m. launch beside the ramp at Lopez. By noon I was headed back in with four wahoo to 52#. The only other boat fishing for wahoo Wednesday morning was Al Jorden's $eaNote with Al, brother-in-law Max, and Lopez Mateos Captain Sergio Garcia aboard. The $eaNote scored five hoos and fed three more to sea lions. In addition to the four I got to the boat I lost two more trying in vain to get photos of the fish at the boat showing off the lures that fooled them. Several other boats that put in at Lopez stayed closer to the boca and made easy limits of football yellowfin.
Yesterday and the day before, fishermen fishing with Mag Bay Outfitters caught a monster hoo on conventional tackle that weighed 101 pounds, and another on the fly out of the Casitas on the island where they had no scale to weigh it that taped at 88 pounds.
In the meantime, Captain Ruben Duran has been fishing with clients in the estero and catching black snook to over 30 pounds.
So, although the marlin still have not yet made an appearance they are being missed only by those who are determined to have a fish with a bill on it.
Attached is a photo of Al Jorden and Captain Sergio Garcia on the $eaNote Wednesday with a nice wahoo.
