Re: Hard Top Vs. Radar Arch

ey Anthony, I think we may have spoken before but wanted to let you know I designed a new hardtop for small walkarounds. We just completed the first one last month. It very nice compared to the old tops in that it is two parts, the underside is finished fiberglass with molded housings for electronics, wires etc. Give me a call if you want to get pricing, I'll be out untill Oct. 1 but you can e-mail before then. Here's a shot of one I finished last week, its being outfitted right now with all electronics and antennas, the top looks much better once the electronics are installed as they are all flush mounted. I can post a pic of the finished job once I get back, thanks, Tom R. Hard Top Vs. Radar Arch-0756x8.jpg By the way I have a canvas guy in house that can modify your cover to fit through the new top.

Re: Hard Top Vs. Radar Arch

What's the height limit, isn't it 13'6"? My project is already 10' from the street to the top of the cabin. I still gotta add the flybridge and seats..... I'm guessing I can shoot for a knockdown arch maybe? Here's the project, the flybridge is on the floor at the bottom left of the pic.

Hard top, you can mount everthing on it and still have an enclosure which will be more stable in winds and if you are in nasty seas.

Re: Hard Top Vs. Radar Arch

I bought my Trophy 2052 from Olympic one year ago this month. I had them put a hardtop on it through Mariner Enterprises in San Marcos. Mariner does all of Olympics after market tops. I watched the entire operation minus the actual building of the top. I was there for the intial measuring and the installation. I was happy with the process and the top has been fine all beit only one year old. I paid $3200.00 with 6 rocket launchers. I did pull the wires myself. Sorry no pictures. PM me if you have anymore questions. Hardtop all the way, it really makes using the walkaround easy.

Re: Hard Top Vs. Radar Arch

I know everyone keeps talking about the hardtop, but for me the arch is much better. I already have the F/B and I spent a lot of patty searching time standing on the rear of the bridge behind the seat. A hard top would definately reduce my visibility and the bimini with full eisenglass is there if I really need it.

I think the max height is 14ft... turns out I'm a little over at 14'3". Don't tell anyone.

Re: Hard Top Vs. Radar Arch

I would say on a 19 foot walk-around you may want to re-think the hard top. Hard Tops are great on a small C/C but on a walk around it will leave you very little room to cast and manuever. Also, unless you get a belly loop on top, it will be hard to stand up high to look for kelps.
At least with the Bimini it is only in the way when you really need it.

Re: Hard Top Vs. Radar Arch

Thanks Chris and watch them low overheads!

I grew up riding the NYC subway system- what's a belly loop . If you can ride a subway car without holding on you can surf a hardtop in 5 footers at 25kts hehe....
