Re: Is your Autopilot Reliable???

I like mine when it works, but sometimes (mostly later in the day) I get a "no data" reading and my boat will pull hard to the left or right without a heading. I have a raymarine st6001g.

Re: Is your Autopilot Reliable???

I had the ST6001, but I have gone through 5 linear rudder sensors in 1 year. Its not a good choice for a bracketed outboard, the sensor is not waterproof. It really pisses me off when it fails about 60 miles offshore at the end of a long day. Looking into something different now.

Loved our Sport Pilot Plus for the last 2 years, now all of a sudden it won't hold a course. Contacted Raymarine and they said send the whole unit to them (including compass and steering mechanism). They must not understand what they're asking us to do.

Re: Is your Autopilot Reliable???

Had a Comnav on the boat when I bought it. Never held a course in the Nav Mode, but on Auto it would work sometimes.

Last year's MAW heading south. TJ on the port side, all of a sudden compass starts swinging, now TJ's on the Starboard side and were headed back to MB. Happened a couple more time's. Ended up driving the rest of the trip.

Replaced with a Simrad AP16, works bitchin.

Re: Is your Autopilot Reliable???

My Raymarine Sport Pilot works great if you want to run in circles! Can't get the thing to disengage and go back to SDBY. I have to unplug the damn thing to keep from fighting the AP.

Simrad AP14R. Did a quirky beep a couple of times but that's it. Works great! Best upgrade I ever put on the boat...

Re: Is your Autopilot Reliable???

Simrad AP14H had worked well, but I just fried the linear feedback unit and replaced it, but works like a charm again. You might want to check into the systems with "virtual feedbacK" like the AP16, a bit spendy, but better than burning through five feedback units and the hassle out at 60 miles.
