| Handheld VHF, which one>
I need to get a handheld VHF and am looking at the Uniden MHS350 and the Standard Horizon HX270S. Does anyone have any experience with either of these radios. Both seem to be fairly comparable as far as features and can be had for less than $150.00. Any other recommendations would be welcome. I do not want to go cheap, but would like to stay under $150.00.

I've got the Standard Horizon HX370S and I like it!
I think I got it on sale at WM for about that price (but I'm a Port Supply kinda guy). Float bag was $20 extra.

I have a Standard Horizon and like it.
My suggestion is whatever you buy, get one that can use a AA battery pack. Then can get some Lithium-ion AAs and not worry about it being dead when you need it nor worry about where or how to charge. Rechargeable packs are a pain IMO.

I just ordered the Standard Horizon HX270S. I comes with a charging cradle, NIMH battery pack, AA batter pack and AC & DC charging cables. All for $115.00 delivered.

Good stuff and great price. I use the SH 471 and like the am/fm deal while trolling. Guess satelite radio would have been a little cheaper.

Picked up an off brand hand held V at West Marine in San Pedro yesterday, for a second backup. With their sale it was $62. Couldn't pass it up! Charged it up and works fine. Not what I'd want for 1st string, but works for a spare spare.

According to Standard Horizons website, it appears the only difference is: The HX370S is factory programmed with all USA, Canadian and International and NOAA Weather channels. It also has the capability to be programmed 40 Land Mobile Radio (LMR) channels with CTCSS or DCS signaling by a Standard Horizon dealer. These channels do require the appropriate FCC license
Other than that they look to function basically the same.
