Raymarine tech Bulletin!

Coming back from Cat the other night I went to switch on my radar. I get a message saying "scanner not responding".

Started checking wires today and when I took off the cover there was quite a bit of water in the bottom of the Radome. Wiped up the water with a rag and checked the drain. The drain was plugged up with grease of something so all the condensation was getting trapped inside the Radome. Couldn't get it to work so I proceeded to take the scanner down so I could go get it bench tested tomorrow.
When I took it off about another 1/2 cup of water came dripping out from the inside of the electrical housing. The circuit board was under water for I don't know how long.
So with nothing to lose now I started taking the thing apart...everything was wet inside. And it looked like water on the circuit board had been frying.

Long story short I dried the circuit board out with compressed air and everything else inside. Put the thing back together and I'll be damned.....it's working like a champ!

Moral of the story? Make sure the drain plug in your scanners isn't plugged.

Great news Tim!!!

Thanks for the positive statement on Raymarine's ruggednes & durability. Good job making us aware of cleaning out those drain holes too.

Thanks for the heads up! I install a lot of Raymarine gear and my customers have been really stoked with the user friendliness of it! Especially the C and E series. Mark-

Re: Raymarine tech Bulletin!

Great,
i am installing my Raymarine system and all was finished till i could not get the unit to turn on. after checking all leads and haveing power at the connection at the unit i took it to boatersworld and had them unplug there c120 display unit. plugged it into my c120 and it would not work. out of the thousands sold i got the one that did not work. Crazy. the guy i got it from is going to swap it out tomorrow. as far as the Radar i was concerned about the size of the Lip on the rubber insert for the drain. it looked kinda tall after inserted in the outlet hole. funny to read your post today. im going to have to keep an eye oon the drain now. Thanks For the heads UP
