radar arch backing

FINALLY got that arch from e-bay mounted on the boat. For a couple of alkies with makitas and pipe cutters I have to say it looks great. Question now is the flybridge side wall is flimsy and needs backing support. DO I need to back the whole wall or just a 2' X 4' section behind the mounting bolts? If you want to see what that e-bay guy in Florida sells for $1400 give me PM and I'll show it off to ya'. Also built the mounting support brackets for mounting one if you want to do it yourself and save some bucks. Took two guys an 18 pack and six hours for the intiial mount. Lots of laughs for the marina tenants, too!

It really depends on how many contact points the arch/tower has with the boat.If most of your mounting points are on a vertical portion of the boat I would make some fairly large backing plates and also secure them to the boat as well. No real need to drill and thru bolt the entire backing plate, a generious amount of 5200 will make the backing plates part of the boat. Secure all your horizontal mounting points prior to fitting your vertical mounting points to releive as much of the vertical load as possible.
