Heading Sensor Installation

I want to hook up a heading sensor to my chart plotter so I can have a radar overlay on my screen instead of using the split screen.
I bought this Raymarine unit and want to know if I can use this for that purpose.
I have a Northstar 6000i chartplotter/radar and I am showing the Raymarine unit I got with the color of wires.
If I can use this does anyone know what color of wire goes to NMEA etc. ?
Thanks any help is appreciated.http://img691.imageshack.us/img691/782/1001528.jpg

Bob, I would think going to Ray's site with the model number would be a start. The sender might only work with the unit it was made for. Most heading sensors have the head as you do but also have the "brain" that takes the info and outputs the NMEA signal. My guess is that you only have 1/2 of what you need.

I have the same unit, but I also have other parts that go with it.

go to Raymarine support page and pull up the install instructions for the unit it will have the color coding of the wires and what they are for.

Good luck

Thanks for the info--looks like I need more parts to make this work.

I would look into the KVH azimuth 1000.. Its simple and fool proof and reasonably priced. I had that same sensor you have up there with some 10 year old raytheon electronics I removed from my boat.

I also have the Azimuth compass but haven't finished hooking it up yet. I will use it for the heading output also tying it to my PC-nav software.

I looked up the KVH unit and it looks like it would work for me price wise plus ease of installation. Thanks again for the info!
