Got new radio

Well I just got back from WM and bought a new Icom M504 and the Shakespear 5225XP antenna. Couldn't find the problem with the old radio so I didn't want to risk it. Questions now. Where to put the new radio. The old one was down by my knee and you couldn't see it. But the instructions on the new one say not to put it within 1 meter of the compass. Well the electrical box on the T top is directly above the compass so that's only maybe 24" away. I don't have a lot of room on top of the console and that would be too close to the compass. I think maybe I might need someone who knows what they are doing to install this. Also the radio has only one thin wire for a remote speaker while my existingradio one has two, grn and yel. Don't I need two wires for an additional speaker? I don't even want to think about hooking up the GPS right now. Anyone know of a good installer?

24" and in the electronics box is fine.

Is the single wire actually 2 wires wrapped in an insulation?

Easy to do yourself.

Save $50-100+

I just looked at the M504 manual online, the speaker wire looks like a Co-AX cable, must be a sm. connector you solder on and then just screw into back of speaker, I think.

Dave, Just hold the radio in place and see if your compass swings. It is the magnet in the speaker that if to close causes problems. The compass will not effect the radio! Both of my Icon's have a small speaker jack in the back to plug in the external speaker.
