Comments on past experience with purchase of a used radar would help.

for me, the comfort of having a new radar is immeasurable. i know there are no hidden problems or quirks that my occur at the very worst time.

Old post but I'll chime in....

I would be less concerned on a display but the radar itself is a mechanical device. As such, it will be more prone to wear and tear. Unless you know the person you are buying it from, you will likely never know what you are getting until after the sale.

Since radar is your primary source for vision under normal radar use circumstances, I think having piece of mind with the most likely electronic component to fail should be a priority.

My vote is new on the radar.

I ran a boat there in SD and the owners never bought anything new. If the used radar your looking at works well, I'm sure it will continue to. If it needs any work move on and find a good used one. Also the difference in price should reflect the fact that you will have no warranty and any fix'n comes out of your "savings". Good Luck.
