transducer question

I just recently bought a furuno fcv667 from Ron (Hustler) who provided an excellent price and no hassle. If you want something (electronics) I would suggest asking him first befire you shop around. Anyway, I have an 18' Parker and just wanted some input on transducers. Would a thru-hull be too much for my size of boat? There are sevral different transom mounts that I am looking at. Any info/tips would be appriciated.
Thanks, Ryan

I wouldnt even consider anything but the thru hull.Sure you can use the transom mount but if you want the sounder to work at its utmost capabilities get the thru hull. You should also get the hi speed fairing block that Furuno has to offer.Installation is not hard but the fairing block does need to be fit to you bottom so the ducer points straight down.

Jacks right on the money. With a good thru hull you can get clean reads at running speeds.

Ryan-

If you go thru hull make sure the hi speed fairing block will fit in your boat. I have a Striper 21 ft WA and, unless you hack the shit out of the fairing block, it would not fit in my boat. The only other option was to put it so close to the propeller it would get prop wash anyway and cause problems with the propeller. I had to return the unit and get Furuno's transom mount. You should call Parker or maybe someone here will know.

Brian

Go thru hull, let Ron know what kind of boat and he should be able to hook you up with the proper fairing block for that hull from the factory.

In all due respect

I have to point something out here.

Ryon is a very good buddie of mine, and has also purchased electronics (a Navman) through Spanish Max (Boataholics) at a great price and also was very pleased. Both Ron and Max I consider good guys and friends.

I am posting this because It seems Ron may now be selling some electronics as well, so whether it's T- Tops, tackle, 6 pac charters, electronics or whatever, go with what feels right to you at the time and whenever possible support your local guys.

The unknown fisherman :p

I put a Furuno thru hull in just a few weeks ago and I'm thrilled with the results. The high speed fairing is simple to install .It's made real tall so you can cut it to fit your deadrise and the 'ducer points down (if you are mounting it off-center). I mounted mine centered so I cut it down to the minimum and ground a "v" in the mounting surface to fit the keel (it must be made of hard urethane 'cause it works real easy).
