This weekend was the annual Fall Brawl KMT at OIFC. Congrats to the Reel Finattic team taking home first place with their 35.55 lb king.
The bite was hot at the horseshoe with many anglers enjoying the action. We looked for about an hour and a half for bait at the Hot Hole then elected to ride out the horseshoe. We didn't get all four lines in the water before the first king of the day hit the sorty in the propwash. We hauled it aboard and new we were on the fish. The first hour proved successful with 6 strikes and 4 in the boat. The final two fish of the day were money fish. Unfortunately we lost them both. The last fish would have taken the tournament but we lost him within about 40 yards of the boat on a hard run.
As the weather gets cooler I would expect the kings to keep moving offshore until they reach their wintering grounds. The jungle proved to be innactive so it looks like the fish are moving a bit north aswell. But for those going out in the next few days try the horseshoe put to Frying Pan Tower and everything in between... I know that the fish are there. Look for the 70 degree water... you should find it at about 70-90 feet of water.
Good fishing!!
