When you go down to Pavones going from Golfito to Pavones there is a small river crossing via barge. I heard there is some great snook fishing in there. Just get a local to take you, a lot of huge crocs there too. Also, Pavones has some roosters outside the break. Try live mullet or a lure that looks similar. If you want to get offshore let us know we can hook you up.

I just got back from Costa Rica, stayed in Quepos fished with Chris Kiembe out of Quepos, Had 4 soild bites on the sailfish, got 2 to the boat for some pics, could of had more but the bait did not want to come and help us out, The day before I fished with Chris, a black marlin approx 600#s was caught in the same area, we fished a spot called the 26 which is a high spot in the ocean approx 200 ft deep. While I was down there a fisherman was fishing a river not to far from Quepos and was eaten by a croc, I stopped on a big just before Jaco near Los Suenos and saw some huge crocs laying on the river bank, Never fished from the beach but heard of Snook and Roosterfish close off the beach and running near river mouths.

There are big crocs there. they generally don't bother humans much. Compared to the number of crocs the attacks are very rare. I have fished from shore there and have swam with crocs in sight without ever having any problems. I watched a 16plus footer swim through a crowded beach one day with no interest in the swimmers at all. Only takes one bite though to wreck a good fishing day. There are fish to be caught down in the Pavones area. I would fish the rocks by the river mouths and along the shore outside the jaws. I caught my best rooster of over 50lbs right in the middle of the bay there on a small rocky rise with live bait. The commercials have put the hurt on the snook there recently I am sorry to say. Good luck. PURAVIDA
