Hola and Bunos Dias:
From the Fishing Capital of Costa Rica, Los Suenos & Jaco Beach. We have had a great start to our peak Sail Fish season here which typically runs from January through late May. While we catch a lot of Sails year round, these have proven to be the months that offer the most bites and larger numbers of fish hooked and released.
The average size Sail Fish you can expect to catch here is between 80-120lbs, with plenty caught in the 120-130lb Range. We are also catching a lot of huge Mahi's in the 35-60lb range along with a lot of YellowFin tuna.
The Nearshore bite on Rooster Fish has been slow to fair, with our guests that choose to fish a day near shore getting 2-4 big Roosters per trip along with some Corvina, Jacks and Snappers. The better Rooster Fishing days will arrive in late May through August, but its still worth giving it a shot anytime at such a prized fish to add you your "I caught one of those" Portfolio.
Here are some pics of just a few of the fish caught by a group of ours from another On line forum that came in on our 6nt/7 day package, who caught a total of 25 Sails in 2 days with us, and fulfilled their fantasy to catch a Rooster Fish. They fished aboard our boats, Bethina, Macushla, and Miss Behavin'
