| Help Costa Rica Fishing, flying into Jaco
I am off to Costa Rica in 2 weeks time. Most of the threads say that for the best fishing try and fly into LIB. Unfortunately I am flying into Jaco. Can anyone tell me where is the best fishing near here, also who would suggest I fish with, any info would be really great.

Watch you shit real good. Do not ever set a backpack, camera, ect... out of your sight. Than being said, I'm sorry I can't give you any fishing info, but one of the worlds longest lefts breaks just down the road from there ( if you surf).

Been there, don't trust anyone in Jaco. Lot's of theives, it's their passion to rob rich Americans. That's what the people I know in Dominical say. It's the most Americanized in CR, so for my money, leave as soon as you get there.
P.S. All you need for Pargo in CR is a yoyo reel, and a rivermouth.

what made you decide on jaco?
i live and run my boat here in Quepos, about an hour south and we have better fishing, much better prices, more places to stay and eat and much less crime. drop me a line and i can help you out even in jaco.

I don't know Chris but I agree with him that Quepos is much better. There is good inshore structure for light tackle fishing, good boats for offshore and the town has some good restaurants. If you want to splurge rent one of the luxury homes with a pool on the cliffs near Manuel Antonio National Park where you will attract both monkeys and ladies to stock the pool!

First off, Costa Rica is beautiful and while some of the warnings are well informed, if you use your head it will be fine. I have stayed in Jaco a half dozen times with no problem.
If ya need a cheap safe place to stay try the link. The owner is Matt and he is a great guy who keeps a clean nice place for cheap. Paraiso del Sol de Costa Rica
As far as fishing, try these guys out. They are from Rodanthe N.C. origionally and are good fisherman and great guys. If they are booked up try Brandon at Costa Rica Dreams sportfishing. Costa Rica Sportfishing
If you are already staying in Jaco, take a day trip down to Quepos and go to Manuel San Antonio park and do a half day inshore....great day there..
If you surf, you'll love it down by Tulin' about 10 minutes outside of Jaco.
Yes, be aware and use common sense, and yes do not leave anything by itself in the rental car or on the beach.
The food is great in Jaco though, or at least it was the last time I was there about 4 years ago.
Guanacaste is a little better in my opinion, and it is only an hour flight from san jose to Nosara which is beautiful and also has some good fishing.
Wherever you end up, enjoy it and have a blast.

I agree with you Chris...and If you have the money and can't leave the Jaco area, you should be able to find a charter out of Los Suenos. If you go up to Giones, Nosara area, just ask any of the locals how to find My favorite Captain Vibert Blanche. He has been fishing the area for over 25 years.

I fished with him twice last November both inshore and offshore, we had a blast and caught fish.
Look to fish out of Quepos if you can. Like some one else said, stay in Manuel Antonio, plenty of options and close to Quepos.
Good luck, Costa Rica is awesome!

Thanks for all your replies, great info. I have decided that Quepos will be my best option, so will probably fly there.
Anyone know of clean decent hotels in Quepos?
Chris I have dropped you a line through your website.

Not sure about Quepos, but Manuel Antonio is just 10 minutes south and there are tons of places.
Quepos is a little "dirty" due to it being a port town, Manuel Antonio is a tourist town, very nice.
Nothing wrong with quepos, I ate dinner there with my wife, went shopping, but we liked Manuel Antonio much better.
You can get taxis at either place at any time if you don't have a rental car.
