Panamá Report (Pedasí)

Still slow overall but there was some action today. Our boat pulled a 40lb Wahoo while other boats with us a few Yellowtail. Super clear water, lots of Bonita schools, porpoise etc but still extremely slow for this neck of the woods.

Tommorow we will change directions and head out from Isla Iguana in search of Dorado and hopefully a return to our normal good fishing. I can't ever remember it being so slow for this period of time now going on two weeks. The surface water temp is the normal for this time of year 84 F. So who know's maybe Al Gore is right?

Re: Panamá Report (Pedasí)

Hi Jeff,
If my finances permit, I'd like to be a "visitor" this winter. The part about being blown out during jan.- mar. has got me worried. I' m not interested in trophy fish per se. Just some local action both surface and bottom. Can this be done comfortably?
More than anything 2 or 3 months of warm weather and relaxation.
Thanks,
Elm

Sure it can be done we leave out of Playa Ciruelo which is just around the corner from where we are normally at due to the wind break being moored there.

We fish less than 8 miles offshore and sometimes stuck right along the coast. Early departure and in by 9:30-10:30 before the winds come up also somedays no wind at all.

Plenty of big jacks and rooster fish along shore. Good jigging for 30lb plis amberjacks that time of year and tons of small to medium Yellow Fin Tuna in March. with the Yellow Fin Tuna we set a number to quit by (quanity). It's not unusual to have the first strike at around 7:15 and be heading in at 9:30 with 35-50 Yellow Fin Tuna. It ususally takes more time to clean than to catch it's that crazy most of March.
