Question? Belize (Ambergris Caye)

Going on vacation down to Belize (Ambergris Caye) Nov 9 - 15, wanted to fish flats 1 day and either reef or offshore 1 day. Has anyone fished there before? Not too many charters to pick from. Any suggestions? What are typical charters like down there? Pricing$$$? Any tips would be really helpful.

I did a charter out of Ambergris Caye and it was terrible. The boat showed up very late and then they just wanted to fish for bait sized fish all day. After a lot of begging they went outside the reef and we trolled but it appeared the captain didn't even know how to troll. We got frustrated and asked him to take us back to the beach after a short time. Our friends tried again later with a different boat with the same results. Good luck finding a quality operation there. I would stick to the flats boats if I ever do it again.

My wife and I were in Ambergris Caye a few years back - we loved the place / people. Through our hotel we went on a reef fishing trip / shore lunch outing that was fantastic. The guide picked us up at the hotel dock on time - we fished inside and outside the reef for king mackerel, barracuda, yellowtail snapper, small grouper - caught 20 or so medium sized fish. We then went to a beachfront park that had a barbeque / palapa/restrooms where our guide cooked some of the fish with local veggies & fresh tortillas. He had cold water / soda / beer and fruit for dessert. The meal was wonderful and he was full of local lore. We then went back out for as much fishing as my wife was willing to put up with and then he dropped us back at the hotel. Total cost was $200.00 + tip. Check with the water activities director wherever you are staying and ask about this tour. Good luck - I envy you.
