Information on Bocas Del Toro

I am interested in visiting Bocas Del Toro, Panama in November and wanted to know what sportfishing opportunities were down there and what kind of fish were available? I am interested in catching both bottom fish and pelagics and wanted to know what techniques fisherman use in that area? Are there opportunities to throw poppers at Tuna and Snapper like on the Pacific side of Panama? Jigging for Tuna, Grouper and Snapper? Sailfish opportunities?

Any information will be helpful

Thanks

On my trip last spring I hooked up with a local hook and line commercial guy named Paris and had a great time fishing with him and his bros. We would net a bunch of sprat for bait and then flyline them for spanish mackerel and kingfish. For the most part it was a full speed bite and they would end up with 80-100# to sell and I had a fish or two for dinner. Paris and his brother Chato are very cool and live in Bocas town, ask around and I'm sure you can find them. It was cool fishing and bullshitting with the locals and very inexpensive.
While this isn't jurassic sized topwater pargo and tuna like in the pacific, I didn't get the impression there is much of that in the area, some locals told me there are some dorado, wahoo and blackfin tuna offshore, but it is a long run.

Where abouts did you fly line the sprat? out by bird island or?? I was there and spend a week or so fishing. Didn't have much to show for it. Caught a couple black fins small. And yes it is a pretty long run.

Did have fun there though

Hey Doug,

We fished in the lagoon a bit east of Solarte island, kind of between Bastimentos and Cristobal, we were about 1/8 mile off a yellow nav buoy. Paris would drop the hook and start chumming and it was on...
