probably just a batch issue and the QC on the st-76 is probably better (hence costlier). There is really no reason other than a manufacturing problem to be able to straighten a st-66 under normal drag loads.

John, Dave P/M me with your address and I'll comp you some of the very newest VMC hooks called Tropic Star these are forged hooks with a very very sharp similar to Owner cutting point hooks - they are heavier wire and two piece construction vs 3 pcs of wire on the Owner I believe. Peter I believe did straighten a hook on an ST-76 during our trip on a #50 Cubera. Not knocking Owner but the VMC is worth trying, very available and 40% less costly. These VMC truly are an impressive hook we have taken Bluefin to #180 on the 5/0 earlier this year. I plan to use VMC hooks in future runs of our Ultra Minnow and Tuna Candy lures.

FUCKIN' AWESOME JOHN!!!!! Epic report & photos!!!

I just got back from P.V. and was wondering where all the tuna were... Now I know... YOU KILLED THEM!!! EPIC BROTHER!!!

I know all too well about those 8'6 rods... Too much rod for big fish! I won't even cast anything longer then 8' anymore... 7'10 and below for me.

Again, way to hammer the fish buddy!

Stoked you finally got to see the report! Just following in your's and Glen's footsteps and John Delacruz and his crew got a lot of nice pics in an epic bite and all I had to do was tell the story. Panama man...look at those charts...its fucking unreal...I mostly did the pure scenics and background photos to try and fill out the trip for those who have never visited those waters as it is just SO beautiful there. You gotta get down there man, it's no more expensive than PV and the glory days never last for long til the seiners/long liners take their toll...John would hook you up and Diane would have a great time too I'm sure.

I tell ya, that lil 120lber stoned me and neither John D. nor I could raise his head once the circles under the boat started and at times I thought he was going to pull the rod straight out of my hands there was so much pressure. That extra length really multiplies the pain as Force1 x Distance1 = Force2 x Distance2 if I am not mistaken from my college Physics with a whole lot more distance on the fish side of the fulcrum. I did see another report where "high sticking" with a Tuna Sniper to vertical and the rod doing a full 180 raised a large bluefin for Kilsong's buddy (see 360tuna.com) so maybe I just needed to know and trust the rod more.

All I know is once we got that fish to the boat it was cervesas por todo and a great day on the water . Thx for the reply!
