The guys from Cape May Tackle that were there the days before I arrived used the Hot Pink and the Cuberas were killing it. I had just the one Green Sardine.

If I was going back I would take 3 Green Sardine, 1 Blue or Teal Sardine, 1 all Silver, and a coupla 3 or 4 Hot Pink if I was targeting Cubera as you'll likely lose a bunch to those devils.

TBH though, that lure is so hot I bet any color would work. It really has to be seen to be believed.

Check out Glen's terrific post on the subject for more info:
Gmans intro to Casting to Big Game Fish - Sport Fishing Forums

I remember Glen saying in the above post (that really is the Bible of casting to big fish) that the Baby Runboh was the best Tuna lure he had ever found and to not be worried about the price ($35 each, no hooks or split rings). I would absolutely second that opinion.

The post is a great guide as to what other rigging is appropriate and a fine read for any serious angler.

I also highly recommend the "Baby Runboh".A couple of other lures I would definitely have for Panama would be the "Tackle House Shibuki" and "Robert's Ranger".All of these worked very well on Tuna and other species.

I'm stoked you enjoyed it Grumpers .

We should give credit to John Delacruz and his crew as well as obviously some very fine photos were taken by them that all I had to do was supply the narrative for.

I hope all you mariners/captains/serious dudes out there click on those charts to blow them up to get an idea of just how sick the topography is and what the potential is in those parts.

I have the shibukis and rangers, I just need a runboh or two I think. What size hooks are you puttin on them (will probably use owner st-66s)?

I used the marlin magic ahi pussy there and got big tuna and marlin both on it. It was the best one I tried there. Love that fishing Panama. Everybody needs to fish there at least once.

3/0. Glen says the st-66s are a little light and can straighten and recommends the st-76 that are quite a bit pricier. I'm not cheap but sometimes a straightened hook story is as good as a landed whopper imo. But if you are really serious about a "personal best" fish or fish "of a lifetime" spare no expense as the Baby Runboh will be the lure to do it on.

I am still debating on the 66's vs 76's. To straighten a 66 a guy would have to be pulling some serious drag and then some. I don't doubt that you could do it however. I would think the larger diameter makes penetration a little more difficult as well

All the best fish stories I have are of lost fish!
