Fishing costa rica or panama

I will be in Costa rica (on a cruise) for 1 day, would like to book a trip for some inshore fishing (rooster, grouper etc). Does anybody know if panga trips are available out of Puntarenas C.R. or out of Colon Panama. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Colon Panama is not the best place for Roosters or Cuberas. Actually, I dont even think there are roosters there. And, the city is a slum. If thoose are your two options, go with costa rica.

Your best and quickest option would be to fish Playa Herradura which is where Los Suenos Marina is located. Puntarenas is a shipping port with a lot of pollution and crime (night time). Land in Puntarenas and head south......you will be able to fish a Panga at Los Suenos and there are roosterfish, snapper, barracuda, and needlefish just a quick boat ride away.
Hope this helps....

Hi Dean,

Fishing in Colon is not that good, there is only one good spot there which is called Volcan reef , it is about 45 miles from Colon , you are going to need more than a Panga to fish this area because the water is rough as hell most of the time , it is like fishing in the Caribbean , you have to be very lucky to get a good day , November is the best month there for sea condition.

Fishing suks in Los Suenos. Our guys pulled out after two days and headed to the East Coast for tarpon, snook and sharks.

Fishing around Los Suenos can be very good or slow depending on the time of year and the daily weather. There are roosters, pargo, sails, marlin, mahi, tuna and a few wahoo found there. Arrange a trip there and take your chances. It is better than your Panama choice unless you fished the west coast of Panama. Fishing around Puta Area costa rica (as it is sometimes called) is not as good but it would save about four hours of drive time going to and coming from L.S. to fish. Good luck.
