Great fishing adventure thanks for sharing the story and photos.

What is the best time for cows down there?

Tuna Popping sounds like tons of fun.

all year round. The "off" season means it might rain more than a little but the fishing is just as good for nearly all species. Marlin best in the winter. everything else is available year round.

Panama City? Doubt it, but if you go up the coast call John at "Panama Sportfishing Lodge" and he will hook you up with excellent fishing, food, lodge and an excellent catching adventure.

that is exactly what it looks like , fish that are release are not taken out of the water , that is the proper way not to hurt the fish , the fish that are taken out are for consumption

I was read/heard Feb and March are the best time for big tuna and April is the best month for quantity until I visited Panama last January.
Since I visited Panama Sportfishing Lodge in January, I have gone to the lodge two more times ( April and Oct) and I plan to visit again during Christmas Holidays if I can find time.

My observation is that there is no clear pattern for big cow. It seems they start to show up from mid January around Hannival Bank or Montousa and stay there until fall. We didn't catch any big tuna in early Jan trip, but we had nice Yellow Fin Tuna over 200 lbs in late April trip and they reported catch nice Yellow Fin Tuna throught summer. When I visited Panama in Oct, I fished only one day offshore at Hannival Bank and we didn't catch any tuna though we got black marlin, but they got big Yellow Fin Tuna over 200 lbs after we left the lodge.
