| 4th of July Report - Tamarindo, Costa Rica JULY 4th WITH A BANG!!!
Tamarindo, Costa Rica Report
CR Gamefish Sportfishing
You know I woke up this morning and did not even know it was the Fourth of July… you forget important dates like that when you live full time down here in Costa Rica. But let me tell you this.. Certain historical dates like this bring good luck for some reason- and this day went out with a BIG BANG!!!
We found the mother load of all trash lines today about 10 miles off the beach today. And this one giant palm tree floating along it seemed to be the one-stop-shopping , Sea World Effect if you want to call it... We must have spent the most part of the day trolling by this sucker! This floating tree was soooo chocked full of Yellowfin Tuna, Dorado, and Wahoo … you could not get 50ft. Back on the troll before you hooked another 1-2 fish again! We lost count on how many fish we really caught, released a bunch and just kept catching for hours. We did however keep 8 Wahoo in the 15-20lb. range (snakes), about that same number in Dorado in the 10-20lb. Range, and about 10 small Yellowfin Tuna (footballs). We lost 2 really nice sized Dorado in the 40-50lbs range when we first got there by keeping 2 yellowfin tuna on the line, live-bait kind of thing, really didn’t have a choice as they came busting in as we were reeling in the small tunas. At a few point the 2 clients onboard took a series of breaks up in front of the boat , they were spent! We called in a couple of other boats fishing from Tamarindo as well and we all made out about the same- tons of carne!!! This is so typical for this time of year off Tamarindo - Trash lines and logs with a whole variety of fish under them..
Water was flat calm and beautiful.. Overcast skies… just a great 4th of July in my books. And the best part- the clients went back to the hotel with goofy smiling faces and sore arms, and they were completely happy. Money well spent my friends…
The photos below really don’t do any justice for all the fish we saw and caught today, tried to take some shots when ever I was freed up. Hope they will do..
