Today was the first day of descent weather!!! Finally got to wring out the Ol' foul weather gear- Thank you lord, there is a god!! .... its been 2 weeks of nasty, wet, tropical storm wish-wash, offshore & inshore slop that has kept us hanging over the rails and pinning ourselves to the gunnels! Geezus Kristo.. My heart goes out to those Quepos boats that were lost... This kind of thing really never happens here and was a big surprise, caught alot of us off-guard.
Had fellow BloodyDecks member "BentRod84" Matt Gilchrist and family in town and fishing on the boat for 2 days.
The first day was pretty washy and rainy(ocean conditions), I think Matt drank to much the night before but he was laid out on the front casting deck while his Sister was bent over the rails most of the day exchanging holy thoughts at the sea.. Lots of green water, lots of chop, and lots of trash and debri floating around. We managed to Raise 1 Sailfish and 1 Striped Marlin - both fish came and went as fast as they showed up and was tough to get a bait on them quick enough. Crossed paths with 2 other tailing Sails that did not want to bite. Trolled back to the beach in the afternoon after going 25miles offshore looking for blue water.. came to the inside reef and landed 1 Yellowfin Tuna about 15lbs. Weather looking snotty for the next couple of days so we post-poned the 2nd day..
Day 2, June 7th. What a turn around weather wise- finally!! Party Sunny, glassy calm seas, and blue water right up close to the beach. Not to mention the current went back to normal.. Ran straight out to the drop, 10 miles, and found some spinner dolphins holding a ton of Tuna! Tuna jumping, busting and ripping everywhere around the pod of porpoise.. nice 30-40lbers with an occasional bigger tuna blowing up the water. Must have released over 15-20 tuna, kept about 6 nice ones, could have kept going all day.. They were even hitting the larger marlin lures.... Matt went through alot of his lures honing and testing the tuna bite ratio per color combo- kind of nice when you can pull out some of your own personal lures and see the get hammered!! . After catching about all you can handle, and after hearing some reports of 40lb. Wahoo's being caught on the inshore reef in the morning, we B-lined it back towards the barn. Spun around the reef for an hour in the afternoon and saw some small football sized yellowfin boiling under some birds.. trolled some wahoo plugs and jigs around for 1 small Dorado, and about 3 or 4 Bonito. Great day on the water, and lots of meat in the cooler! One note: did not see a single Billfish all day- weird?! that wont last though...
My camera is still down but I expect Matt will have some photos up soon we he returns back home.

Was out yesterday, June 9th, and found some spinners dolphins holding lots of tuna again!!! Same deal, kept 6 that were over 40lbs. each and released alot more.....the were jumping on all big & small Lures. Birds running 200 yards out front of the porpoise diving on big boils and jumping tuna..
We also had 1 nice Striped Marlin throw the hook, Released 2 Sails, and raised 1 more sail. Water was sheet glass all day, like a mirror, and the water was blue clean all the way up to the beach!!! Yea-HAH. June is some of the best weather conditions here out on the water.

Beutiful day on the water. | Hey Harry, has there been any flurry's of Wahoo around the Catalina Islands?? We have been having some shots at em on our reef out front... just wondering if anyone has hooked any around your playground? The water is also soo blue, clean 2 miles off the beach. Been fishing with Chepe, Junior, and Gene(the 31 Gamefishers) down here south of Tamarindo alot lately- they have been fishing farther south from Flamingo.

We provide Sport fishing, and Spearfishing inshore off our reefs for Big snapper to Wahoo. For our offshore we have the closest run to the continental shelf for monsters.. |
Nice day man, the fishing has picked back up down here too, we just have to manouver around the red tide currents. Lots of the small yellowfin, and nice sized wahoo. I speared a nice Pargo the other day too. As far as the Billfish go, the marlin have picked up, and i am starting to see a lot more Sails too.

Ya, the snapper have actually been on the bite lately around the inshore reef, seems like they might be on the chew. Some nice Cuberas coming up off the live bait (bonitas). The red tide has been plugging up the inshore bad.. having to get outside of it to find blue water and the billfish. We lost a very big yellowfin tuna yesterday off a pod of spinners,,, got cut off by porpoise brushing up against the line- must have been over 200lbs. for sure!! Lost half the spool in minutes and was on the chase full bore! We might be fishing closer down your way this next week.. water has been dirty red and green up in this direction- found the clean blue water yesterday off San Juanillo, and closer to the ledge.
