Great Sailfish action guys... moving right on in close to the beach.
Right on time, the month of May starts to see a number of Sails moving in out front and really close to the Tamarindo Bay. The action improves through June and July in the area, and we normally start fishing right past our local inside reefs.
We went out on a HALF DAY trip this evening.. ran right to 350ft., or 5 miles off the beach and caught 3 Sails and raised a total of 6 for the 4 hours of fishing. Never really ventured off the area, and saw more free-jumpers scattered around. Another boat in the area came in from offshore and released 5 Sails, and had plenty more behind the spread for a 3/4 Day trip. A couple of Wahoo in the area as well, along with some nice size Dorado (Mahi-Mahi). Saw breaking football sized Yellowfin on the inside reef (3 miles off beach) just before sunset on the way back in... things are looking good, water is real clean.
If anyone is looking to catch Sails, I would recommend coming to Tamarindo, northern Costa Rica for the next couple of months. We really fish close this time of year and hardly venture farr offshore... plus the water is generally pretty calm.
