Panama Report May 4-12

Had a great time in Panama. It was the Let's Talk Hook-Up trip, led by Richard from Cass Tours. There were 14 of us on this trip. We stayed at a really nice small resort in Pedasi named Hotel Villa Marina. The pangas picked us up every morning at 6:30. We fished 4 days catching wahoo, tuna, no big ones, jacks, lots of bottom critters, roosterfish, dorado, just a really wide variety of fish. Pete from Let's Talk, fished the lagoon one afternoon and caught a snook. Cedar plugs, and CD 14 and 18 Rapalas worked well. My blue and white cedar was working really good, as was the the CD 14 in blue and white. We also fished Lake Gatun for the Peacock Bass, no biggies, mostly 2 to 3 lbs. Did a little "nature" tour from the skiff and saw lot's of wild life. Also visited the canal musuem, and watched a few ships go through the locks. Just a really great time. If you ever get a chance to go to Panama do it, Mike

Where are the pics? You reported a great trip, I would be interested to see the pics of the wahoo and roosters.

I used a "throwaway" camera. I should get some pics from the fellow anglers who had digital cameras. Will add the pics later. The rooster I caught went about 25 lbs. and the wahoo were in the 35 to 40 lb. class. I did see a big wahoo in the 50 lb.plus class, but he didn't want to play. Mike

Where around Pedasi were the Wahoo? Around the Frailes or Isla Iguan? Offshore? Let me know. What were you using to catch the wahoo?

The wahoo were about 15 miles offshore from the resort, biting the cedar plugs on the fast troll. Mike
