Well it appears some nice numbers of Sailfish and Tuna have made their way into our neck of the woods today.
Took a few good friends of mine visiting from Jensen Beach, Florida out on the water for a full day. Went south out about 15-18 miles in the morning and instantly started raising Sailfish. Brought 5 Sailfish boatside today, jumped off another 2, and raised about 6 more Sails throughout the day. We also released a small Blue Marlin, lost a Striped marlin, and raised another 2 Marlin. Great Billfish Action, and close to home! Water was beautiful, calm, clean blue, and we saw alot of free jumpers. At one point we had a double of small Yellowfin Tuna and one Blue Marlin on the lines, with a Sailfish on one of the teasers all at the same time!! Chaos at its finest..
Another highlight of the day was when we found a large coiled length of rope tangled with a piece of wood that was totally covered on all sides with Dorado, Yellowfin Tuna, Almaco Jacks, Trigger Fish, Rainbow Runners, Puffer Fish, Tripple Tail, Bonito, and a occasional Sailfish all stuffed together! The Tuna were actually so thick, there were schools of tuna boiling and jumping from a 1/4 mile away from the epic peice of trash with birds diving everywhere.. we drifted for a couple of hours and had non-stop action on chunk bait and yo-yo iron, and even snorkeled with the fish! Total SeaWorld,, we lost count of how many tuna we relased!
Bummer part: well the ol' Helicopter and Purse Seiner showed up and wrapped the hell out of two different pods of Spinner Dolphins just a mile of two fm us.. Im sure there were some Giant Yellowfin Tuna around.. everything else seemed to be lurking around, so much life out there! Was one of those days where you wish others could see and experience.
