Re: New Motor on my 20 foot Wilson Boat

,

Ya, I purchase the motor from ebay about a month ago. Was blown. Had to rebuild it. Don't trust it yet till about 100 hours. I only have 10 hours on it. Last saturday I burned out a ISC sensor. So waiting for that to get to me. Bummed out with out a boat right now, or until Wed..

the boat is my little pocket rocket.. Will make 40 nmph, faster for a little boat, and roomy too..

If you would like to see all the work I did to this boat you can check it out at: 1981 Wilson Boat before Restoration

Re: New Motor on my 20 foot Wilson Boat

Some guys have been wanting to know about my ebay motor. Turns out the ass hole that sold it to me sold me a blown motor. I didn't know it was blown he looks and acted like a bro. He told me that the motor was sucking up water. He didn't tell me that the water was sitting in the motor for a about a year. Took the engine apart and found rust. Rust everywhere. It was also croded. had to have all the alumum weilded back in.

Also the port head was fried and also #2 cyl. Thx god for machines. Man they sure know how to do there jobs.

Total machine work cost was about $625.

Motor cost on ebay blown. $4.5k total rebuild with machining work done, and new control unit from boat.net 3k to 3.5k

Total $7.5k to 8k not including time, about 60 to 50 hours.

Not bad for a 2002 f200 yamaha outboard. Also the motor was really easy to work on. About the same as a 2 stroke looper johnson. the only diffrence was the johnson had leaf valves rather then belt and valve head old seal rings.

Everything was pretty much the same. The only think I hate about the motor is the Sensor's, if you blow a sensor, there goes another $200 to $400.

Also best prices I have found for all yamaha parts and great delivery is Boats.net - The Alternative to Retail Prices Just for OEM Yamaha Parts. As for there other parts are kind of expensive.

Re: New Motor on my 20 foot Wilson Boat

Sorry to hear about getting taken from the seller, but couldn't you let Ebay know what happened and also put in a claim under their "buyer protection" plan? At least get some of your fishing money back, good luck.

Re: New Motor on my 20 foot Wilson Boat

Pierguy,

Ya, I was blinded by the price. On the ebay ad it said AS IS no Refunds.

You know you can't get anything for nothing. And for only $4.5k I could have sold off the parts on ebay and made my money back. I really wanted a 4 stroke for my Wilson. It runs so sweet when it was running last week. just need to replace sensor and back on the water I go. There is no pep boys for marine parts so had to order it from boats.net takes time for delivery.

Also most of the local part places in my area are rip offs. Full manufacture prices is what you get around here. So I can save 25 to 50% at boats.net and the local places still have to order the parts from yamaha. And then local parts mean local taxes..

My boat will go 40 nmph. That is fast for a sea vessel. my little pocket rocket.

I was think that the damage was not that bad since it was only water. The problem was that it was salt water. Check out attached pictures.

I didn't think the motor was this blown up, but at least it had a rebuildable head and the cyl could be resleeve.

Rebuilt included:
1. Machining work
2. re-spring, new valve seals on both heads 4 new valves total rebuilt both heads.
3. new pistion ring, and bearing on all 6 and 1 new piston for #2cyl
4. cleaning of all parts
5. intake air pressure sensor, oil pressure sensor, and ISC sensor

The ebay person to watch out for is: Click the image to open in full size.aeromarinetech in Northern Calif Bay Area / Santa Cruz. They guys name is Phil.

Re: New Motor on my 20 foot Wilson Boat

Thx, Ya, took me over a year to get it to the condition it is in. As for the Paint, it is not paint, I did the gel coat.. Really easy to spray.. Goes on like butter.. .. Had to redo the hull when I purchased the boat about a year ago. Had some hull damage that had to be repaired. Then I when over the hull and cleaned up all the little dings and scratches. sprayed gray gel coat from Hawaii Fiberglass on it. Left it flat gray. Looks very commerical finish.. You can see more photos at 1981 Wilson Boat before Restoration

All the hull repairs and boat repairs. I will be running the boat for a while before I start on the cabin. I was thinking of doing it also in just flat gray with blue racing strips. should look cool..
