Elbow grease

and a whole bunch of sand paper, blisters and sweat.

Thanks for the help and suggestions on the other thread I had a while back. All of the wood I'm refinishing is turning out beautifully. I'm still working on everything that I need to varnish, just a few more coats, but here is how the teak swim step and anchor pulpit turned out.

Different people told me different things about finishing teak. I was told by quite a few people that I didn't have to sand it... Just clean it with teak cleaner then oil it... I don't think people realized just how weathered it was...

Here's some pictures...

After I sanded out the swim step... and then both sanded and oiled.

I like it when hard work pays off.

Thanks for looking.

Re: Elbow grease

I used to do that for a living, and you did a great job. Just be sure to MAINTAIN it. That's key and you won't have to do this again for a very long time. If it looks a little hazy, just sand and recoat.
Very nice work though. I can smell the teak from here.

Re: Elbow grease

Thanks guys and gals...

I do plan on giving it another coat... maybe even two or three... as long as it soaks it up.

I can't wait to post pictures of the finished product. This has been rather fun. And, so far by doing all the work myself it hasn't been too hard on the wallet either. I know, I know... just wait for the big stuff. I have a pretty good idea of what I am in for but it always ends up being more than you thought.

Re: Elbow grease

Chris wakes up on Saturday to begin the replacement of the bilge pump. So he goes and well and before you know it BOAT (break out another thousand)!!!
He arrives home with his treasures and begins the project of the day only to see the SUV w/family aboard arrive home. now the fun begins...honey what's in those boxes? :pms: :drugs: and she slams into the house. He thinks, Ok I work hard and deserve these things she should just chill :104167739. Wife appears from the doorway, and he is instructed to watch the kids, she has to pick up a few things at the store, and you had better have that broken garbage disposal replaced by the time I get home . Tires blazing she disappears down the street. OK back to business he thinks, as SHE arrives at the MALL to ,, , and guess what they have BOAT at the mall too . He thinks all is well and stops to admire is handywork with his buds from the hood and they all marvel at the love and care with which he has used in this endeavor .
The SUV pulls up to the house and the unloading process begins, the boys quietly retreat to their respective humble abodes while Chris here begins the :kiss-ass-love:, , :kiss-ass-love: process. All is well until she enters the kitchen to find the Liquid Plumber right where she left it. :104167739 :Kick_emot :crybabies: ensue. Now the hood is really entertained . And decision time is here, hmmm sea trial the new toys or Home Depot , a few more of these and then this :Blow_Me2: comes to mind. So now it's off to HD for the Grinder Max 2000, she'll NEVER bug me with this shit again . And another BOAT jumps on the Gold Card .
Back to the casa to :kiss-ass-love: , and while bumping his head on the pipes. She hears the loud noises from the sink and comes into the kitchen to thank him for his efforts :Lets_do_i .
The End

Now tell me how many of you have live this little fairey tale???
