OK, I lied when I said I'd NEVER rebuild another boat after the Savannah II is done. A Bertram 31 is my friggin dream boat. I'd give my left nut for one! Alot of guys don't agree with the price, and while yeah, it's alot for anyone these days, for the devout Bertie follower, that price will sell the boat. As far as the powerplants, they may not be yannies or volvos, but parts are a bit cheaper and easier to get than the "newer" mills.

All long as those Cummins were redone with the current upgrades they are perfect motors for that boat. More HP might be OK but how wet do you want to get anyway? Certainly a nice sled but if it is such a good deal it would have sold already. One of those cases of someone who has a ton of $$ into something and is trying to recover as much as possible. While the 31 is certainly a good choice to restore and get some $$ back out of it in todays market there are limits even for them.

beautiful boat, I love Bertram 31, as well as the 35, they are the classic charter boat.

The guy that redid her knows his stuff, but I think he put too much time and $ into her.
I believe this is the second season she has been for sale.
There is also a 35 Bertram SF on the THT that is asking around $80K and to me this is a lot more hull. 35' Bertram Mark II SF. Reduced!!! $79,900 - The Hull Truth |

| Dont know the specs but-
I have a 1976 31 in Kauai. It blew 40 knots for 40 days and I ran charters off the south west side all day. My 31 can go down 20 ft rollers and as long I'm on the helm (really on it!) she drops in and slides out so sweetly I have no choice but to goose it and then I'm surfing a 20 foot face on a 31 foot long board. There is no better vessel no matter which direction you are going. It's Hawaii and the waters warm. Get used to it.
I converted to twin cummins 6bt rated at 250hp. A sweet set with new ZF 1.53 trans. I am very very happy with the package and can't wait to stuff some 315's in there when these little girls tire out. As I have read she runs rpm to knts almost evenly. 2400rpm 24 knts, unless you are on the face of a sweet one then by God you may be pulling 40knts with the biggest smile on your face while your friends scream at you to "slow the fuck down, we are are shitting all over ourselves in here".
Plus when handling in tight quarters, say like with a 500 pound marlin straight down and circling, you can relax and bump her around so nice just like that.

The Cummins power is perfect for that boat. The only alternative would be Cummins 330's electronics for me. Yanmar, phooey
