Exclamation Need bloody help... Need your comments... New purchase

Hail Bloodydeckers...

I just found a really good deal (I belive it is) on a brand new 2006 Trophy 1952 WA with 1.7 Mercruiser diesel engine, only installed option is pro-pack which is rawwater wash down, coaming pads, and wipers. O.T.D. $29,409 including trailer and all the fees.
specs on the boat:

Specifications
TypeWithout TrailerWith TrailerLength Overall (LOA)19' 1" (5.82 m)Beam8' 0" (2.44 m)8' 6" (2.59 m)Deadrise17°Approx. Weight (w/Base Engine)3,235 lbs (1,467 kg)4,085 lbs (1,853 kg)Length Rigged20' 1" (6.12 m)26' 11" (8.20 m)Draft Hull1' 5" (.43 m)Draft Max2' 11" (.89 m)Bridge Clearance Max6' 1" (1.85 m)Fuel Capacity55 gal (208.2 L)Baitwell Capacity (Opt.)13 gal (49.2 L)

talked with the sales guy and got the specs on 1.7 Mercruiser as it follows

330 miles range

cruise speed is 29 mph 4.5 gph = 6.4 miles per galon

WOT 35 mph 6gph = 5.8 miles per galon

What do you think? Do you think it is big enough to take a trip from san diego to catalina islands on the weekend? Do you think it is capable of handling 100 miles off shore (I know it depends on conditions). Give me your opinions...

Thank You

Save 15k and buy a used diesel skippy there is a nice one on craigslist right now for 15k. Look used, buying new right now does not make a lot of sens

...100 miles offshore in a 20' boat...I would not do it.. a lot of weather can come up between land and 4 hours offshore. 40-50 miles should be ok on a nice day.

My opinion is you'd be crazy to go 100 miles offshore in that small of a boat...but that's just me. Oh, and BTW those numbers you quote are likely to go way down once the boat is loaded with gear, fuel, anglers, etc.

Sounds like a nice coastal boat, though.

Seems too small to put a diesel motor in (19' @4000lbs base weight doesn't give you much carrying capacity.) Too small/ heavy for extended off shore use. At 8' beam you still have the engine cowling to deal with. Just my thoughts.

Not a bad deal if your looking for a new diesel boat. You'll love the boat the bait tank sucks El Capo balls. Tell them to throw in a transom seat mount. I have the same boat but with an outboard 4 stroke.

After having a trophy boat for about a year now,I would never buy another trophy again. It is a decent boat for the money. But after a year the emblems have peeled off,the cabin which is never used has the rubber striping coming off,and other small things.I do take really good care of my boat but the quality is not there.I would save my money and buy something else.Good luck

I seriously doubt that boats gets those numbers. Any boat for that matter. On a 55 gallon tank you've got about 150 miles total. I mean 75 out and 75 back.

Those numbers are bullshit. Those are the same numbers I am supposed to be getting with the 115 4 stroke but it is no where near that.
