| Sumo 10/27 Santa Cruz- Channel Islands
Jumped aboard the Sumo with Captain Mark 4 AM open charter. The weather was cold, 10k wind and light rain through out the day. Set out for Santa Cruz of the Channel Islands. First drifts produced reds and chucks. I managed to bring in a double looper filled with two huge Sir Charles. Went on to catch reds, chucks, salmon grouper and whitey. I fished for lingy on my lingy set up with anchovies. I got four big hits and only one taker for a catch and release 22". It was a rough fishing day but Captain Mark pulled through with his fishing sense and moved us around till we filled our sacks. Deckie Steve took a day off from Pro Staffing to help out the newbies untangle their lines after using helicopter weights. Never use two torpedo weights or for that matter any two small weights tied together on a charter boat they just foul everyones lines. Also when the skipper yells lines up that is just what he means start reeling up. It waists fishing time from others. This info is for the newbies only BD members. Roy managed to get the JP after two false starts at the landing because of fould weather. I came in a close second with Sir Charles. The Sumo was escorted home by a school of at least a hundred frolicking Dolphins with the horizon outlined by the most magnificent rainbow. It's always nice to get out on the water.
Tight Lines and enjoy the ride!
