Fished Santa Rosa Island with Mitch “fishrdi” and Dave “nighthawk8” aboard the “Big Drum”.
First fished the Eagles Nest area for a little bit for White Sea Bass, but there was no one home. Then we found the fleet dispersing from the Becher’s Bay area. We thought to ourselves that they probably already had limits, or the fishing was slow.
Our plan was to fish for the Rockfish before the winds picked up, then we’d try for the C-Bass. Unfortunately, the Rockfishing was kind of slow for my liking, but we did manage to get limits after a couple hours.
Here is Dave with a nice Vermilion Rockfish.
Here is Mitch with a nice VR.
Here I am with a VR.
Here is a Dave with a nice Whitefish.
When we were almost done getting limits of tasty Rockfish, a young seal came over and did an elaborate aerial program for us, as if it was auditioning for a gig at Sea World. Funny stuff.
We then fished the skinny water for Perch and Halibut.
Dave had the hot stick for the day. Here is Dave with his first of three legal Halibut that he caught.
A short while later, Dave went bendo again on another Halibut.
Here is Mitch and Dave with another one of Dave’s three legal Flatties.
Here is Dave again with two of his Halibut. Way to go Dave!! Those two red beads that you put above your hook, was definitely the ticket. The Halibut probably thought your Sardine was chasing two Salmon eggs.

! Those Halibut definitely made up for not catching any WSB.

Here is Mitch with one of the many Barred Surf Perch that we caught and released.
I took this next picture while cruising back to port on the backside of Santa Cruz Island. We had another fantastic and memorable day fishing the enchanted Channel Islands. I can’t wait to go back.
Till next tide,
