You should join Get Bent( lots of Ventura/Oxnard locals) and post this you'll get a ton of info.

in addition to the above advice.....

All the public "rockey" spots are labeled on your gps/chart plotter with "rky".
Launch out of CIH, head to the anacapa arch, look for "rky" on your plotter, and dropper-loop squid strips. or try between anacapa and santa cruz, too. thats called "the gap". repeat the "rky" process. watch your meter.

about 11AM start watching for the wind to start blowing in the channel. when you see your first white cap, head for the barn.

Beware the "closed to fishing" areas.

You can also pick up a foldable chart of the Islands and area at the tackle shop next to the ramp in Ventura. If you go out of Channel Islands you will get there faster.
Good advice on the Whitecaps. Pick up the map for sure if you can to show closures.

I like to launch out of Ventura harbor, shorter ride out of the harbor and they always have killer sardines. Oxnard is usually a anchovy mix.

launching....

Before you drag yourself up here watch the Oxnard NOAA marine forcast. This time of year the wind and fog can get nasty! For bait you can get some at CISCO's in channel islands harbor, they claim to have live squid this weekend! Ventura has bait right at the ramp, call first because sometimes they run out. Most of the rockfish that the big boats are catching now is up the line between the rigs about 1.5 hr.s from Ventura( big boat time ). Good luck!

The "Traveler" bait boat supplies both harbors.

101 to Seaward Ave. head toward the beach and take a left at Harbor Blvd. Take Harbor until you hit Schooner take a right here. Road T's into Anchors Way go right here the ramps on the left. Daves fuel dock is right there this is the place to get bait no sport boats get bait here so it is always cured. The bait dock usually opens at 5:30 or 6am depending on Marks beauty rest for the day.

Weather can be key when fishing this area check out the weather sites, dress warm the mornings are on the brisk side this time of year.

17ft.com is a good local weather site.

Good luck, D.

Ditto!

Big west swell headed our way... will make for difficult rock fishing. Grab some bounce ball rigs and get some Halibut. Then post exact GPS #'s for all of us!
