| Rosa's backside is purdy
Brother and I hit up Rosa Friday through Sat morning. Damn back country beach camping it supposed to be open June 1, but is closed until August because of elephant seals....we found out the day before going, so we made due on our boat for the night.
(not sure how to write in between each pic, so descriptions in order of pics.)
We left SB harbor around 6am, and forecast was 10 knt or less until noonish, but is was already blowing 10+ when we left, so a bit of a bumpy ride in our 18 CC O'Henry, but made it to the backside in just under 2hr.
Started off with a short dive, and didnt see much except some decent calico, I shot a 4.5 lber, to ensure dinner.
After, we did several drifts from about 80ft to 30ft of water. The first decent bite of the day, happened right in the middle of my brothers "daily contisutioin".......ass over the side of the boat, with his pants around his ankles, he still managed to grab the rod and fight briefly, until the line broke.....he managed to grab and rig up the one rod/reel with old shitty line on it, damn, all the others had fresh 30lb izorline on them. Oh well lesson learned....check you rig.
After a seemingly slow morning we managed to each pick up a schoolie sized WSB, 30" and 32", 12 and 14 lbs. In 60' of sandy bottom. I caught mine on a fresh jigged Dine, and he was fly lining a 10' Blue Mackeral. We agreed we would let any other schoolies go, but for now, these were Dinna (made some of the most killer WSB Ceviche).
Rest of the afternoon was pretty slow, we got on the island and took a little hike in the afternoon. Headed back pretty early to beat the wind. Drifted for a couple hours with nada. The gap was a little bumpy, but we cruised the channel at 25+ knots home, made it back in just over 1.5 hrs.
