I orderd a bunch of spreader bars from Archer-sent the check today. I figurerd on those WFO days it don't matter, one stop shop and head home. When its scratch-a-core I feel these spreader bars will help turn a 6-8 fish day into a 10-15 fish day. That was enough for me to pull the trigger.
2 meatball little superbars, 2 green sportboat bars, 1 6 inch meatball squid bar and 1 9 inch chase bait.
I AM NOT affiliated with Fred, and I have challenged him on some of his comments(Yes-I am an idiot) so no hype or sales or anything. Just Chatting!
Anyone else pull the trigger and buy some bars?

I do agree w/ fred that an offering of 30-1000 might raise the fish better than a 4-6 bait spread.
I have little experience with the bars, I made one last year with the standard five drop stainless 3 ft bar.
I pulled it once, no fish that day, but it looks cool has about 22 4" hoochies on it and a swivel under last middle hoochie to attach a chase bait or I may modify to a release clip and just drag it short off a cleat.
Here's a pic:

SDfishkiller- I saw the bar you used for sale at Dana landing. I thought about making my own but said screw it and bought some. I have never trolled a spreader bar but really liked the way they looked. On the Spanish Fly last weekend they were trolling bars and had underwater shots of them and they looked AWESOME. That was the straw that made me pull the trigger.
Oh-By the way thanks for the mackrel last friday.-It worked well! Hope the beer was cold!
I'll be at it again friday-C&R if I get lucky again. That was my first T after about 30 hours of trolling over 2 seasons.

I'll get my fish!!!
I'll bring out more macks this weekend but it will be 2 live macks per 6pack this time .

I started building some out of carbon fiber. I'll post pics when I get them done, but it will take some testing to see how they perform in the water.
When we run offshore, I always troll at least one spreader bar. I've had great success with them for 5 years now, they work!

I bought 4 bars last year and tried them at the end of the season on Yellow Fin Tuna but the only thing that worked that day (and worked well) was cd 14 Rapala in blue mac. They look like they should work well and don't tangle which surprised me.

SDfishkiller-man, inflation on macs now-whats next. Also-decent prices at SDSU......
I hate seals- Hanson (Bada) said you guys did well on the bar you trolled. I would like to see the final product when you complete the ones you making.
Afry-I have had my best luck on Yellow Fin Tuna using raps when the fish are with mammals. Deadly....

We used spreaders down in Panama - really surprising what a school of 60-80 lb tuna can do to them!

Ah, yes, Phat, you and I have gone round and round a time or two! Glad to hear you finally got that thresher (I'm going to post some butchering hints next) and welcome aboard as a customer and future BarHead!
One thing...I am not going to take the rap for the way that metal bars perform. They are vastly inferior to our SuperBars and generally a helluva lot more money. I cringe when I hear about people running the metal clunkers off of cleats and such. Phat has ours. Even though he hasn't fished them much, he can tell you how extremely light they are. No cleats needed and they can be pulled and catch fish on very light tackle, if that's what you like.
As far as tuna busting them up, it just doesn't happen on a properly rigged bar. If the teaser rigging is wrong, for sure, the tunas will bomb the hell out of the teasers as well as the chasebaits.
I'm not going to turn this into a commercial. If anyone would like to see SuperBars running, the video is in my forum. The bars shown are THE best of our entire lineup of over four hundred of them for all-around west coast fishing.
Go get 'em, Phatman!

Go get 'em, Phatman! | Ya Fred, I know that the metal bars are probably inferior to your product.
I made that bar for less than $30.00. Figured I'd try one out before I looked into your bars.
It's an evolutionary process |
