Lobster Report Card comments

Attached is the draft version of the new lobster report card. The F&G will be in San Diego on February 7th and 8th for their meeting. They have not released an agenda yet but this may be our time to voice our opinion of the new card. They already voted and there will be a card starting in September of 2008, however they have not had much public comment on the format and recording requirements of the new card. Just in case you want to be involved here is your chance. Click for larger image.

Thanks, Joe.

If the card truly provides funds for research and the protection of the lobster fishery...I'm all for it.

Great scoop, thanks.

If you don't go and give your input you have to shut the fuck up.

I'm against it for the following reasons:

How is this going to help the resource? Do they really think that recreational hoopers make as large an impact as commercials? Do commercials have to abide by the same red tape?

Anglers are already funding the fish and game to do research. Maybe the state should be using the money earmarked for fish and game for exactly that, research which leads to sensible fisheries management. I wouldn't be surprised to find out all the fees paid by anglers are going into the general fund, which is where this money will go also.

Why do I feel that when I pay the state of California for the privilege to fish, they are using that money to try to shut down my ability to fish?

Thanks for the info Joe.
Sixty times for the season for 8 bucks? the fee is not much, its just the fact of more big brother in your business. I'm still for it, if it makes resources more plentiful in the long run.

Looks like the F&G are no longer in charge of the design of the card, so they will not be discussing it at the meeting. I have forwarded my concerns over the location codes to the DFG.
