Colnett - Fishing

Fishing Sat. & Sun...Baja Coast/Colnett... on (12/11 to 12/13) has anyone ever fished the area the first/second week of December? Any advice? We'll probably be bottom fishing that weekend since I highly doubt any Tuna will be in the area.
Should I take my casting jig stick with me just in case? Any information would greatly help, also, what type of lures work best for the area?

I'd bring a jig stick just in case, but that time of year it will pretty much be a rockcod type of deal. Depending on the type of boat, and how many anglers are on board, Yellowtail and Bonito would be a low percentage play at best.
The rockcod fishing, on the other hand, is the best I've ever seen. Huge reds and Lings--and a lot of them. Again, not sure what kind of boat you're going on, but if tackle isn't provided, be sure to bring plenty of 4 hook ganions (I use #4 hooks) and plenty of torpedo sinkers in a range of 8oz. to 16oz. It's mostly shallow water rock codding down there (less than 200 ft.) so a no frills set up is fine. Penn Senator or equivalent loaded with 30# 0r 40# mono and a 7' medium or heavy bait stick is fine.
Good luck down there!

If the water on the high spot is 60 degrees or higher that time of year can have some great yellowtail fishing. I was on a 1 1/2 day on the Pacific Voyager that time of year a couple years ago and we limited on Yellowtail's in the 25-40 lb class in the morning on the yoyo jig. Bring the 6xjr's with a 50 or 60lb yoyo outfit for sure.

I second the Yellowtail possibility. This year the water is very warm down there still. Yo-yoing around the highspot has produced in the past. Early winter can be some of the best Yellowtail action along the northern Baja coast.
