| What the hell is up with peeps
OK talked my wife into going buggin (her fist time).
In Mission around 8:00 pm.
I just relocated and dropped 5 hoops (about 11:00pm 10/16/09 tide was going out) and moved away to let them soak. After about 10mins my wife noticed that the the boat that we thought was anchored wasnt and was now over my net that was 15' from the rocks.
We drove up to him yelling that he was over one of our nets (i use a milk jug with a flashing LED glow stick so its noticeable). So what does he do before i could get my net.......starts the motor and drives off .....with my rig wrapping around one of his props. He gets about 40' driving over other peeps nets (some not lit(i hate that too)) and stops. Im yelling at him, ( we are in my 14' valcor and he is in his 25' $$$boat) we get up next to his boat and he says to me "I dont want to get wet" (Dude looked and sounded drunk). I was trying to keep my cool so is not to upset my wife (Very Hard). I told the guy to lift his prop and i started on the bird nest of rope from my new net and the guy took off to a lower deck.
Around 5-10 min and a twisted cut line later, i retrieved my rig. I yelled at the guy that it was out of the prop and that he should be more careful. a minute later he came up and said thx. Not a Im very sorry! I was an idiot for just drifting drunk while below deck, you total saved my boat from grinding on the rocks. Please take this 12 pack cuz i dont need anymore.
We hooped for a few more hours and went back in. Only had about 5 shorts so no bugs for her.
Im new at the fishing/hoopin thing, just started this year. Does this happen often?
Thanks for the vent,
Later

At least you got your gear back. That guy should not be out on the water.
Thanks for the report.

I wish I could say "no" it doesn't happen, but it does. There are mostly respectful, nice hoop netters out there, but once in a while we run across someone who is drunk and inconsiderate. Sounds like you kept your cool. Good for you!! Lets home next time you don't run into this guy.

Do you get CF #'s of Document name? I like beer, but damn when you are driving a boat especially that close to shore/rocks alcohol is not the hot tip. Maybe you might save a life by contacting authoritys. Oh well. Sounds like you handled it well and even took care of the wrappig of proppig. Those trap bueys are like driving through a mine field. DON'T DO IT.

That was very nice of you to clear his prop completely... I probably would have left some in there for him to deal with...

But he would have drifted into the rocks, sunk his boat and sued the good guy. Typical bullshit. And you did play it cool. Your girl would probably been all over your balls had you lost your cool. Good going!!!! Plus you never know what someone has below deck.... eath _To_Above: |
