U.S. Limits (southern california)

i figured i was bored and would put up a list of limits for most fish caught in SD, maybe pin it next to the mex limits and edit as new reg come out. note that the rockfish regs i'm putting up only apply for the southern area.

F&G code 27.60 General limit: allowed only 20 fish total per day with not more than 10 of any one speices.



California Halibut
Limit: Five
Minimum Size: 22"

Barracuda
Limit: 10
Minimum Size: 28"

California Sheephead
Open Season: Mar-Dec 360' of water or less
Limit: 5
Minimum Size: 12"

Ling
Open Season: Apr-Nov 360' of water or less
Limit: 2
Minimum size: 24"

Cabezon
Open Season: Mar-Dec 360' or less
Limit: 1 also counts twards the total bag limit of 10 rockfish
15" minimum

Bass(calico, sand and spotted bay)
Limit: 10 total of any combination
Minimun Size: 12"

Bonito
Limit: 10
Minimun Size: 24" fork length or 5lbs. but 5 my be less than 24" or 5lbs.

Albacore
Limit: 10 in addition to the general bag limit, that means 20 fish+10 albies
Minimum Size: none

bluefin tuna
Limit: 10 in addition to the general bag limit
Min. Size: none

Yellowfin Tuna
Limit: 10 these do apply to the general bag limit

Bigeye Tuna
Limit: 10 these do apply to the general bag limit

White Seabass
Limit 1 from mar 15-jun 15, 3 from jun16-mar14
Minimum Size: 28"

Yellowtail
Limit: 10
Minimum Size: 24" fork length, 5 may be less.

Swordfish
Limit: 2

Mako
Limit: 2

Thresher
Limit:2

Marlin
Limit: 1

Sculpin
Limit: 5
Min. Size: 10"
Open season: Jan-Feb 0-240' of water, Mar-Dec 0-360' of water.

Rockfish
Limit: 10, only 1 Bocaccio.
Min. size: none, except Bocaccio(salmon grouper) must be 10"
open season: Mar-Dec 0-360' of water

can only use one rod with 2 hooks or less when rockfishing

Leopard Sharks
Limit: 3
Minimum Size: 36"
Open Season: Mar-Dec 0-360', open all year in mission and SD bays.

Ocean Whitefish
Limit: 10
no size limit
Open Season: Mar-Dec 0-360'

sand dabs
no limit, does not count toward general bag limit.

Barred surf perch
Limit: 10

the following fish are not specifically noted in regs and fall under the general bag limit 10 of any one fish with no size limit.
Dorado
All Croaker (yellowfin, spotfin etc.)
Corvina
Corbina

Getting tired of the "What's the limits on dodo?" questions. Got old after the 7th or 8th post and all the whining that followed suit.

Bio: I am retired and wander around fishing here and there. I lived in Central America for 10 yrs mostly in Costa Rica and also in MX for a few years and South America for a couple. I got tired of the third world rat race and am now back in San Fran.

In northern cal it is only 3 halis not five for california waters. Our depth limit for lings and rockies is 120' sure wish we could fish 360' up here.

look up my last post, had a pretty good day, albies, yellowfin a bluefin, and some good sized dodo. took it to the 295 earlier with the wife, that was a mother fucker for 2 albies. and a couple other trips with albies. we should hit up another trip together. maybe next weekend, or something. the boat is way nicer than the last time you saw it.

I do not know why you would want to keep more of these but Bocaccio(salmon grouper) you are only allowed 1 fish in your bag of 10 rockfish.

Good post.
The two fish limit on Swordfish perplexes me.
How many BD'ers have taken their second swordie for the day, and then scratched their head, and said 'Hey, wonder what the limit on these pesky things is anyways?'.

Has anybody got a 'limit' of swordies this year in Cali?
If so, my hat is off to them.
