I've got a 260 Mercruiser which is the 305 GMC engine and a planing hull. From 0-8 MPH I get great GPH then from 9-15 it sucks because we're pushing a lot of water and still in the hole, then from 16 up we start to plane and GPH gets good again. If you're looking to really conserve gas (at least while trolling) mount a kicker motor that will push you comfortabe 7-10 knots. I think a 9horse should do it.

As I mentioned, I am installing a Floscan unit already. It's a Twinscan model 3FB013U4:

I got it for next to nuttin' and new on ebay for only $200. from a private party that bought it and did not use it - list is $825... I just kept checking for months. As suggested above, it can be connected to the GPS also. I had the analog unit for my single 350 engine on my last Skippy, and while it's great at gallons used and helps to run efficiently, it's a constant reminder of gal$$$/hour...

Repowering to diesel or other expensive alternatives won't make sense, as I historically average maybe 80 - 100 engine hours on the water per year.
So what I am / will be doing is what's most cost effective for value per gallon of gas...

Lots of new Holley Pro-jection TBI style units for about $600-$650 each. Better than a carb, and adjustable. 650 cfm.

How about the Flame Arrestors? Make sure they're not squashed or deformed. Mine was unusable as it came. Had to look for a unit capable of bigger airflow numbers.

OK, cool that you are getting the flo-scan but you might consider the model that links to your gps for the instant to the second mpg deal.

Well, I don't know yet if it does as you suggest, but either way it'll have to do...
