Yeah I guess so! Last trip to Rocky Point and the vast majority of the boats in the 24-28' range were older Sea Ray's. Prolly because they had standard Fords or Chevs for power and parts are cheap.

Any new opinions out there on this boat? I'm still looking to eventually buy this type of boat.

My previous boat was a 1978 SeaRay FlyBridge 24. Mine didn't have a flush engine compartment, but I built the engine cover making it as low and as strong as possible I would just step onto it when fishing. I loved the lines of the boat and the fact it had dual stations were great in bad weather or early morning launches. Like some of the above people have said it cut through the waves very good. Mine had a 350chevy with a merc alpha 1 drive. I averaged 1.25 mpg at about 20knts, anything above this speed would see my milage drop to 1.0mpg with a FloScan. But as a fishing boat it wasn't the best. Not much room for a bait tank or a fish hold. In a good albie bite the deck is a little small if you have more than 2 people fishing. Mine also didn't have a self bailing deck. (The flush deck models may). I purchased mine very cheap and rebuilt it from the ground up. I learned many things while working on this boat. The only thing I've heard negative about the SeaRays is the transom can have moisture issue's. I hope this information helps you in your quest.

Thanks for the information Robert! That is really helpful information! You did mention that there isn't much room for a bait tank or fish hold, where did you mount your bait tank? I've always figured the swim step would be the best place to mount the bait tank. You also said there wasn't much room for fishing. Do you think the flush deck would make it a little easier/roomier/comfortable?

Do you happen to remember what the widest point on the boat is while on the trailer? Are the fenders on the trailer wider than the boat itself? The reason I'm asking is I'm buying a house and RV parking is a must and I need to know how much room I really need for RV with this Sea Ray.

I had a bait tank on the swim step plus bait bags for bleeding tuna. I would keep a large cooler on the bow with ice and after bleeding the fish I would take them to the bow. (Pain in the ass)

I don't really think the engine cover was the issue, on the 24, the cabin and Flybrige are pretty big and sit pretty far back compared to my 25 Skipjack.

The biggest issue I had was no self bailing deck. I made do with sealing up the floor and adding some pumps but it was still a pain in the ass.

The other issue I had was top speed and fuel consumption. The boat does handle the rough water very good but it's not always rough and that's when the top speed and fuel consumption went to hell. 1.0 at times.

The wheels on the trailer are wider than the boat.
My RV parking is 9' 8", it's tight but it works.
Good luck

ive got a 24' sea ray flybridge. its a 79 with engine above deck. single station up top. eveything you need to add another station is there except the steering. ive put new connectors on most of the wiring and replaced the fuel pump, water pump, hose clamps, and i cant remember what else. all this was done for preventative maintenance, not because it broke. i still have the old parts for proof. its for sale if you want to see it. im saving for new exahust manifolds now. it has a 350. im going to canada for two weeks leaving this friday the 3rd. if your interested pm me and you can get first dibs. price is negotiable because it is FOR SALE. ill be back the 16th.
