Do your homework on pricing and buy used - find a surveyor with experience in the make, model, engine, etc.

If the boat has been thrashed - it will show - anything that you can't see a good surveyor should find and report.

Don't ever fall in love with a boat before the survey - just my 2 cents.

A 21' monohull is ok for inshore fishing as it will pound due to length and hull style, especially the Carolina skiff, followed by the seafox and triumph. These are inexpensive boats and basically you get what you pay for.

If indeed you want to fish close most of the time and ocassionaly go offshore, I would suggest that a $25K Caracal 18' catamaran would give you a better ride, be more economical to run and have a higher resale value than any off these.
